General Description
The Switchboard Operator contributes to the vision and mission by answering incoming phone calls and route them to the person or department needed to properly address the customer on the other end of the line. May perform various clerical tasks, such as filing, copying, and receiving incoming packages from the post office or private services. Works closely with other Team members to effectively gather and process information to improve patient satisfaction with prompt response time.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
- Answering incoming calls to the switchboard and routing them to the appropriate department
- Relaying inter-hospital calls, paging overhead hospital personnel & physicians
- Taking payments and posting to the correct patient account (When Cashier is not available)
- Posting payments received in the mail to patient accounts (When Cashier is not available)
- Counting cash drawer at beginning of shift to make sure drawer balances from night before
- Reconcile cash page daily and work daily bank deposit
- Scan paper remittances in patient accounts after cash page is reconciled
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to work independently with little oversight and direction
- Able to work well with others
- Strong sense of work ethic and customer service
- Able to multitask
- Available to work 12-hour shifts
- Available to work occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
SKILLS
- Computer literate
- Ability to use office equipment to include but not limited to: postage machine, copy machine and fax machine
- Use of 10 key preferable
- Able to operate PBX (Switchboard)
EDUCATION
- HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE OR GED WITH EMPHASIS ON CLERICAL OR BUSINESS COURSES.
