Position Summary:
The Billing Specialist will be responsible for managing the full billing cycle, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of client invoices, and working closely with attorneys and clients to resolve billing-related inquiries. Experience with Aderant software is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and process client invoices in accordance with firm guidelines and client requirements
- Collaborate with attorneys and practice assistants to ensure billing accuracy and resolve discrepancies
- Handle client billing inquiries and follow up on outstanding issues in a professional and timely manner
- Maintain accurate billing records and documentation
- Monitor unbilled time and ensure timely invoicing
- Generate pre-bills and edit as necessary, including applying appropriate billing rates, discounts, and alternate fee arrangements
- Submit invoices through various e-billing systems and follow up on rejected or delayed submissions
- Work closely with the collections team to assist with receivables and reporting
- Provide billing support during month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with firm billing policies and client guidelines
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of legal billing experience in a law firm or professional services environment
- Strong understanding of the full billing cycle and billing best practices
- Experience with Aderant billing software is highly preferred
- Familiarity with electronic billing platforms (e.g., BillBlast, TyMetrix, Legal Tracker, etc.)
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
