Position Overview :
Reporting directly to the Vice President, this role will be responsible for spearheading process improvement initiatives and driving operational excellence in asphalt production and application. This strategic position requires a highly experienced chemical engineer with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and process optimization. The ideal candidate will lead high-impact projects across multiple facilities, ensuring efficiency, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities :
Oversee and manage projects related to asphalt material production and application.
Develop project timelines, cost estimates, budgets, and resource plans to ensure successful execution.
Identify and implement process improvements to optimize production efficiency and product quality.
Lead the design and implementation of new processes and facilities (greenfield and brownfield projects).
Provide technical guidance to team members while ensuring compliance with industry best practices.
Maintain and update technical documentation, engineering specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conduct root cause analysis for production challenges and implement corrective measures.
Collaborate with various departments to align engineering initiatives with organizational goals.
Work closely with contractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in asphalt materials and production.
Travel to company sites as needed, with an estimated travel requirement of 30-50%. Travel schedules remain flexible based on project demands.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Chemical Engineering; an advanced degree or MBA is strongly preferred.
Leadership experience with a track record of building high-performing teams, setting clear expectations, and ensuring accountability.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in engineering or manufacturing, with a strong preference for candidates from chemical manufacturing / processing industries.
Experience working in large-scale asphalt or chemical plant environments.
Familiarity with industry regulations such as OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and APA is a plus.
Technical Skills :
Expertise in process and project engineering.
Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, including heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
Root cause analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
Proficiency in project management and execution.
Advanced computer skills with intermediate or higher proficiency in data analysis.
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to assess and resolve operational challenges effectively.
