Nature and Scope:
This position reports to the Plant Manager.
Under close supervision, assists in the repair of machines and the facility by disassembly, replacement or repair of parts and re-assembly. Performs a variety of general maintenance work functions such as: rough carpentry box building, painting, plumbing and pipe fitting, assisting the electrician, and performing minor repairs and adjustments to the equipment and facilities.
Other tasks may include custodial tasks that include, but are not limited to; keeping the offices, restrooms, lunchrooms, clean and in orderly condition. Assisting with maintaining the manufacturing facility and the perimeter of the building in clean and orderly condition.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job function, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job function, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hand to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
General Maintenance

Principal Accountabilities:
Under the direct supervision of the supervisor or higher up maintenance person, the incumbent assists in the repair of complex machines and/or the facilities by tearing down the machine, replacing or repairing parts and re-assembling the machines. Concurrently, may perform work above on simple machines within the facility.
Constructs, erects, paints, repairs and installs a variety of metal, wooden and masonite structures and equipment, such as platforms, work benches, doors, partitions, cabinets and tables from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions.
Assists in the cleaning, oiling and maintenance of plant equipment as instruction.
Repairs and/or replaces the plants pipes, traps, faucets, and similar small plumbing fixtures. Cuts to proper length and threads pipe using back saws, taps or dies.
Assists Maintenance Electrician as an electrician’s helper as required. Uses a variety of hand and power tools, such as power saw, jointer, sander, spray gun, and buffer to accomplish structural maintenance and repair work.
Prepares surfaces, masks as necessary, and paints furniture, buildings machinery and equipment using brush or spray gun.
Cleans debris from driveway, walkway and perimeter of building. Is accountable for sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming hallways, stairs and office space. Empties trash and garbage containers. Replaces air conditioner filters.

Education, Experience and/or Skills:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or a minimum of one to two years of related experienced and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competence to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with the employees within the organization.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but not involved, written or oral instructions. Competence to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
