Seeking experienced CNC Operator/Programmer. Successful candidate will be responsible and punctual, have a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and experience in design and fabrication of sheet metal projects. Should posses high level skills in CNC programming, tooling selection, work holding requirements and process development, while working independently in a fast paced environment. Required to perform repetitive machine setups, as well as setup and program small run new jobs while developing/choosing proper fixtures, tooling, work holding, and process methods. Laser marking and cutting experience a plus. Use of Auto CAD, Inventor, Fusion 360 or Adobe graphics programs a major plus. Candidates with supervisory experience will be given priority.
Summary of Position - The CNC Operator/Programmer is an hourly position. Successful candidates will program for, and can produce, 2D machined metal parts by reading instructions and prints, programming, setting-up, and operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery. Will maintain ISO 9001 quality, safety, housekeeping and efficiency standards, perform record keeping and labor reporting, and maintain equipment, tooling and supplies.
Primary Job Functions:
- Plans projects by studying job packets, job routers and notes, blueprints, materials, specifications, reference planes and orientations, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Programs high speed mills using AutoCAD and proprietary CAD/CAM software or entering program G/M-code, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs; organizing and maintaining updated programs.
- Sets-up mills and/or lasers, punch press, press brake etc. by selecting, installing, indicating and adjusting required work-holding, tools, fixturing, tool holders, attachments, indexers, and stops.
- Verifies settings by measuring first piece and submitting for first piece approval. Performs sampling measurements during production run per ISO procedure frequencies.
- Maintains specifications by observing machine cycles; taking measurements; troubleshooting, adjusting and reprogramming; monitoring and replacing tools; adhering to quality procedures.
- Achieve routing setup and run times and report any difficulties to shop lead.
- Maintain open communications by documenting actions, irregularities and attentive needs and by completing production and quality paperwork, setting up and/or maintaining organized setup note system.
- Maintain safe, clean and organized working conditions by adhering to safety and housekeeping procedures.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; reporting repairs requiring service to shop supervisor; keeping equipment clean.
- Update job knowledge by participating in company arranged educational opportunities, reading technical publications, trying new technologies, and discussing and sharing experiences with others.
- Assisting with or training entry level and other employees on necessary job skills
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments, performing other duties as assigned, including but not limited to better utilization of long cycle times to complete additional value-added work.
Required Skills – Metal shop machine operation, use of measurement equipment, required hand tools and tooling applications. Programming and editing. G-code/M-code and/or CAD/CAM software experience. Functional and technical skills, conceptual skills, process improvement, attention to detail, blueprint reading and geometrical dimensioning and tolerances, necessary math skills. Ability to work with little to no direct supervision, and ability to work with others as a team member. Willingness to work overtime to meet production demands.
Experience and Education - Minimum High School Education or equivalent and 3 years of CNC Vertical/Horizontal mill and/or laser experience.
