POSITION OVERVIEW: The R’Club Reads to Me Teaching Assistant is responsible for providing care to children in a preschool setting under the direct supervision of a preschool teacher. Reads to Me Assistants are expected to engage with young children in literacy and language activities in all classrooms. In addition, all staff are expected to be engaged, positive and active at all times.
Must be a current student at one of the following high schools: Gibbs High School, Boca Ciega High School, Lakewood High School, or Disston Academy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assures the safety, welfare, and well-being of the children who are in care. Assures program compliance with all licensing, monitoring, and agency requirements.
- Assists in implementing a program which is innovative, educational, developmentally appropriate, reflective of the agency goals and values, and responsive to the needs of the parents and communities being served.
- Attends all staff meetings, training events, workshops and maintains required level of training hours with required documentation.
- Be willing to participate in professional development goals and objectives as the Lew Williams Center grows and develops.
- Engage in language and literacy activities in the classroom assigned.
- Assists the Assistant Director with inventory of program supplies and materials in a timely manner.
- Remain in compliance of USDA and Head Start regulation. Meals and snacks must meet all standards at all times.
- Models good nutrition and proper social skills for preschool children. Participate in family style eating with the children at all meal-times.
- Be knowledgeable of special diets and allergies of all children in care. Provide alternative food/beverage items for children.
- Clean and sanitize if needed any area.
- Provides positive guidance and discipline strategies that support and teach children.
- Builds and maintains a positive, supportive, caring relationship with peers, families, and children.
- Identifies safety hazards and immediately corrects them or reports them to the appropriate party.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain excellent attendance.
- Be punctual.
Qualifications
All employees must earn the Part 1 and Part 2 DCF requirement within fifteen months. This includes Early Literacy Training. Employees must complete the DCF’s Infant/Toddler Appropriate Practices within thirty days of hire.
