Summary:
The Driver/Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of mail from pick up to drop off. The driver must be able to operate a van effectively. The driver must also be able to load and unload mail trucks, and to perform basic maintenance on their vehicles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load and unload mail trucks, following proper safety procedures.
- Transport mail between the postal warehouse and other postal facilities, as well as to and from commercial and residential areas.
- Perform basic maintenance on mail trucks, such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure.
- Operate and maintain mail sorting machines in a warehouse setting
- Use hand tools to assemble and package materials
- Handle and transport materials within the warehouse
- Sort incoming and outgoing mail by type, destination, and other criteria
- Inspect mail for damage, tampering, and hazardous materials
- Resolve mail processing problems
- Ensure that mail is sorted and processed accurately and efficiently
- Perform quality control checks on finished mail products
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to operate a variety of mail trucks.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and to work safely.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Machine experience with ink jetting and/or inserting/sorting is a plus
- Experience operating mail sorting machines is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Familiarity with warehouse operations and materials handling
Focus Area:
The focus area of this job description is a combination of driving & mail sorting. The driver/machine operator is responsible for driving vans to pick up and drop off mail, operate and maintain mail sorting machines, and sort incoming and outgoing mail by type, destination, and other criteria. The goal of this job is to ensure that mail is picked up, dropped off, and sorted and processed accurately and efficiently.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
