Qualifications
- Must possess a Bachelors Degree in any field (Social Work, counseling, Early Childhood related preferred)
- OR a high school diploma with completion of Preschool Credential or CDA within two years
Summary:
The Head Start Therapeutic Early Childhood Program prioritizes services for families and children who have been or are experiencing trauma that would benefit from comprehensive mental health and educational supportive services. The Therapeutic Classroom Leader, in collaboration with the Therapeutic Education Leader and Therapeutic Child and Family Resilience Specialist, provides a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourage their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. The Therapeutic Classroom Leader plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum for enrolled children living in low-income, at-risk environments. They will ensure the provision of quality, comprehensive child development services including education, health, nutrition, parent involvement, and necessary family support services and referrals. The Therapeutic Classroom Leader will follow Head Start performance standards, policies and procedures, Childcare licensing requirements and City of Madison and NAEYC accreditation criteria (if applicable). They also build and maintain positive relationships with parents, children, coworkers and community partners.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- At least 1 yr experience in an early childhood education setting preferred
- Demonstrated ability to practice from a Trauma Informed perspective when working with children, families, and staff
- Experience building strong partnerships with low-income, high risk, multicultural families that have experienced trauma a plus
- Must have a warm and friendly personality, operate from a relational, strengths-based perspective, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, and be able to relate well to children, families, staff and community
- Demonstrate effective active listening, oral and written communication skills, and leadership within classroom team
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of Pyramid Model for Social and Emotional Competence practices preferred and/or willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently and possess strong problem-solving skills, flexibility and patience
- Must be willing to fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with the agencys mission
