POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Purchasing, procures materials, components, services, and indirect materials required to design, manufacture and install industrial baking equipment. The buyer is responsible for negotiating best terms for quality, price and delivery necessary to meet specific budget and schedule requirements. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Uses engineering specifications to purchase required materials, components, services and indirect materials from qualified vendors that meet Reading Bakery Systems requirements for quality, price and delivery.
2. Reviews requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness, generates the purchase order in the computer system and places purchase orders with vendors.
3. Collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, manufacturing, production control, and service technicians to determine project schedules for timely procurement.
4. Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing maintains qualified vendor data based on quality, timely delivery and cost.
5. Maintains records of purchases including, the vendor part numbers, expected delivery dates, prices, and partial deliveries.
6. Proactively expedites purchased items by to meet delivery requirements of the project.  This may involve asking a vendor to change delivery of specific item(s) within a purchase order.
7. Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
8. Works with vendors to resolve discrepancies with quantity and quality of materials, components, indirect materials or services received.
9. Identifies items to be returned to vendors and records progress for return authorization, shipping the items, and credit to account or refund. Works with vendors to obtain corrective and preventative action reports.
10. Assist Receiving/Accounts Payable in resolving receipt/invoice discrepancies.
11. Interfaces with all departments and resolves problems and issues with needed purchase items.
12. Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
13. Conduct on-site visits/inspections of vendor facilities, as needed.
14. Works with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement projects, as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum two years purchasing or related experience
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills to interface effectively with all levels of Company management, staff, and outside business contacts
• Demonstrated ability to read, and interpret technical documents, and engineering drawings
• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratio, and percentages, and to generate and interpret bar or line graphs.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR KNOWLEDGE

• Demonstrated ability to operate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) to generate analysis and reports
• Demonstrated ability to operate ERP system to enter, track and edit purchase orders

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Occasionally required to travel
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
• Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

SAFETY HAZARDS OF THE JOB

• General office environment with minimal safety hazards
• Occasionally exposure to the manufacturing environment requiring appropriate personal protective equipment
