    Position Goal: To provide leadership and direction for the building’s instructional program to ensure fair and consistent application of policies, regulations, and procedures and ensure the academic success of all students served.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

    • Establishes and maintains an effective learning and culturally sensitive climate designed to meet the needs of all learners.
    • Effectively implements the instructional program in accordance with District policies, procedures, protocols, and applicable collective bargaining agreements, including, but not limited to, initiating, designing, and implementing programs to meet specific needs; assisting in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum; scheduling of staff and students; etc.
    • Implements, with fidelity, policies, procedures, and protocols established for students, staff, and visitors.
    • Collaborates and works effectively as a member of the administrative team to ensure consistency across the District with regard to the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures.
    • Fosters positive school-community relationships.
    • Integrates pupil personnel, special education, and English as a Second Language services within the building and ensures overall compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures associated therewith.
    • Participates in the active recruitment, selection, and orientation of staff.
    • Implements staff development in the building.
    • Supervises, observes, and evaluates all building personnel in accordance with District processes, procedures, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
    • Oversees in collaboration with appropriate Central Office personnel all building operations and maintenance to ensure the safety and effective administration of the school plant.
    • Assists in the recommendation and development of a school-wide budget and then administers same in accordance with District policy, procedure, and protocol.
    • Ensures adequate inventory, security, and accountability for all building property and supplies.
    • Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Subject to District-wide initiatives and programs, establishes and maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary ensuring due process right of all students.
    • Supervises and maintains all required records, including, but not limited to, those associated with budget; purchasing; and student attendance, progress, health, and discipline.
    • Oversees, coordinates, and/or attends school-sponsored activities, programs, functions, and athletic events.
    • Prepares and oversees the preparation of all required reports; maintains required records; and ensures complete, accurate, and communication with Central Office administration on all matters impacting school community.
    • Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program in accordance with District policy, procedures, and protocol.
    • Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation, along with finding ways to help students prepare for higher education.
    • Works collaboratively with appropriate Central Office personnel and assumes ultimate responsibility for all school-related public relations and communications.
    • Maintains a positive, collaborative working relationship with the Board of Directors, District and school staff, and community agencies.
    • Consistently represents the District in a positive and professional manner.
    • Actively participates in and successfully complete required trainings, in-service programs, workshops, and meetings.
    • Assumes responsibility for personal professional growth and development and keeps abreast of changes and developments in the educational field.
    • Adheres to all federal, state, and local laws, as well as District policies, procedures, and contractual obligations in areas of responsibility.
    • Ability to be in regular and consistent attendance throughout the work year.
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of promoting student achievement.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Appropriate Master’s Degree required; Minimum five years teaching experience preferred (also preferred at applicable grade level). Three (3) years building level or related supervisory/administrator experience required. Demonstrated leadership ability and knowledge in instructional best practices is required.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Teaching Certificate, PA Administrative Certification – K-12 Principal (or appropriate level K-6 or 7-12 Principal Certification)

    Additional Qualifications:
    • Experience working in urban environments and those which serve a large number of special education and ELL students is strongly preferred.
    • Cultural sensitivity and competence and a commitment to equity in all aspects of the educational process is a must.
    • Experience and expertise in office technologies, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google applications, and the ability to learn new technology quickly.
    • Strong verbal, written, and overall communication skills.
    • Proven planning, organizational, and project management skills.
    • Proven track record of integrity, good moral character, flexibility, adaptability, good judgment, initiative, dependability, effective time management, and even-temperedness.
    • Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the ability to effectively interact and work with a wide range of constituents, including, but not limited to, students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community, evidencing high quality customer service, tact, patience, and courtesy under often stressful circumstances.
    • Ability to work independently, utilize good judgment, interpret regulations and procedures, and problem solve issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations through gathering, assembling, analyzing, and evaluating facts and other evidence.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and proven ability to utilize discretion regarding matters involving students and families.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial reports, governmental regulations and legal documents.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the public, staff, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.
    • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and concerns from professional and support staff, public groups, governmental agencies and District Administrators.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages.
    • Ability to apply financial concepts.

    REASONING ABILITY:
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    • Ability to use correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
    • Ability to compose clear, concise sentences and paragraphs.
    • Ability to organize office setting to efficiently accomplish tasks.

    • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
    • Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.
    • Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented.
    • Ability to operate a computer and related software.

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this position include vision and depth perception. Some driving is necessary.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Position demands meeting deadlines with severe time constraints and the ability to work additional time in order to meet reporting deadlines.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time (12-month) exempt position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s approved Compensation and Benefits Plan and/or Act 93 Agreement.
