Assistant Controller

Position Summary:

Ready Seafood is looking for an Assistant Controller to assist in overseeing all operations of Accounting Department.

Job Responsibilities:

Implementing and maintaining a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk and remain compliant with corporate, GAAP/IFRS and ethical standards, with a commitment to continuous improvement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supervising AR and AP Supervisors:

-       Assigning tasks and responsibilities and following up on the ownership of them

-       Annual employee goal setting and performance reviews

-       Identifying additional training needs and working with individual employees on performance improvement

-       Screening and interviewing potential new hires

• Operating as additional point of contact for corporate offices:

-       Assisting Controller to respond to requests for information or reports outside of periodic financials

-       Attending periodic conference calls to remain up to date on procedures and policies

-       Directing corporate personnel to the correct internal department contacts

• Compiling periodic and quarterly financial statements and schedules on an individual entity and consolidated basis within corporate deadlines, including but not limited to:

-       Balance Sheet & Income Statement

-       Intercompany Balance Reconciliation

-       ESG Reporting

-       Quarter End schedules

-       Quarter End Tax schedules

-       Year End Questionnaires

• Assisting in EOP closings, including but not limited to:

-       Periodic credit card/bank account reconciliations, resolving all discrepancies within corporate deadlines

-       Reviewing Fixed asset registers and depreciation entries and schedules.

-       Reviewing pre-paid assets and accrual entries and schedules.

-       Periodic inventory reconciliations, working with appropriate personnel to identify discrepancies and documenting reasons for adjustments, when necessary.

• Assisting the Controller in onboarding the accounting department staff of all newly acquired/established entities within the organization:

-       Setting expectations for timelines, guidance, and reporting standards

-       Reviewing established procedures for compliance with corporate/group policies and standards, implementing changes where necessary

-       Educating staff on the importance and technical processes of all policies and standards

-       Ensuring that staff remains compliant going forward by reviewing entries and schedules for discrepancies at each reporting period

• Assisting Controller with providing needed financial and reference information to both internal and external auditors and vendor credit management.

• Administering documentation of vendor loan activity:

-       Applying payments and interest

-       Alerting management of non-payments

• Reconciling all Inter-company balances, within the Ready group and with corporate

-       Reviewing all PB IC Confirmations each period, disputing discrepancies and ensuring all entity balances line up with corporate confirmations

-       Responsible for the entry of all corporate bill-backs and push-down adjustment GJ’s

-       Ensuring that the Ready group consolidation of inter-company balances at the end of each period net to zero

-       Ensuring that fund transfers between internal entities take place on a periodic basis to keep balances at a minimum

Knowledge & Skills Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Business Administration or related field of study required.
• Five years or more of related Accounting experience required.
• Excellent management and supervisory skills required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient in accounting software.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

·       Team player.

·       Ability to multitask.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
