My client, a fast-growing construction start-up in an established industry, is seeking an Estimator to join their team in Thousand Oaks, CA. With business booming and more projects than they can handle, they are looking for a skilled professional to manage multiple concurrent construction projects.
My client provides design-build services to commercial customers, handling both exterior projects (parking improvements, EV charger installations) and interior projects (retrofits, tenant improvements, move-ins / move-outs). The Estimator will be responsible for financial performance, growing a portfolio of projects, and developing customer relationships.

JOB SUMMARY :
The Estimator / Bidder is responsible for supporting the estimating and bidding process for ongoing and prospective construction projects. This role involves conducting quantity take-offs, preparing cost estimates, evaluating subcontractor bids, and ensuring accurate project pricing. The Estimator / Bidder will collaborate with various stakeholders, including clients, project managers, and subcontractors, to clarify project scope, materials, and schedules. Additionally, this role requires frequent site visits for field verification and owner meetings to support project success.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY include but are not limited to :
- Estimating Support for Ongoing and Prospective Projects
- Performs quantity take-offs. Some projects have formal blueprints, some require field measurements.
- Assists in the pricing and bidding of construction projects.
- Communicates with customers, prospects, project managers, superintendents, architects, and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements, and documents these clarifications.
- Conducts reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities.
- Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
- Assists with final assembly of estimate for presentation to owner.
- After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
- Aids field operations with change order pricing if needed.
- Frequent site visits required for field verification and owners’ meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

COMPUTER SKILLS - Demonstrate the ability to use Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe, Google office suite, and other modern connectivity applications (Zoom, Slack, Asana) for daily internal communication.
LANGUAGE SKILLS and MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend, and respond appropriately through written or verbal form; demonstrate tactfulness when communicating, including internal communication with staff members of all levels; ability to communicate with a variety of audiences effectively. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all measure units using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING – Demonstrate the ability to effectively apply common sense and follow through to daily tasks; demonstrate the ability to work with little or no supervision; demonstrate excellent analytical skills; demonstrate the ability to efficiently conduct research and ask appropriate probing questions to complete necessary tasks.

SENSORY DEMANDS - The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration. The incumbent must also spend long hours on the computer entering information which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
MENTAL DEMANDS - There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant pressure. The incumbent must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
REGULAR WORK SCHEDULE – Varies depending on business needs; however, the company's regular business hours are 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm, Monday – Friday.
