SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Goalkeeper Coaching Intern. This UNPAID internship offers an incredible opportunity to work with an elite group of goalkeepers, including multiple international-level athletes, and to assist in all aspects of goalkeeper coaching and team management. The intern will work directly with the goalkeeper coach, supporting day-to-day operations, planning, and delivery of goalkeeper training sessions, as well as team set-play planning.
Applicants must receive academic credit for participation or be currently enrolled in a USSF or UEFA Soccer Licensure program.
This internship is ideal for individuals who are passionate about goalkeeping and soccer coaching, eager to develop their skills in a high-level sports environment, and interested in pursuing a career in soccer coaching or sports management.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist the lead goalkeeper coach with daily operations and management of the goalkeeper group.
- Support the planning, setup, and delivery of goalkeeper sessions, ensuring they align with game-based scenarios.
- Assist in team set-play planning, setup, and session delivery, ensuring coordination with the lead goalkeeper coach’s strategy.
- Contribute to the analysis of opposition set plays and attacking tendencies to support the development of goalkeeper and set-play training sessions in preparation for NWSL fixtures.
- On women’s international breaks, lead goalkeeper provision for the team under the guidance of the lead goalkeeper coach.
- Gain hands-on experience in an elite sporting environment, working with professional athletes and coaches.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
- Work alongside professional goalkeepers for the entirety of the NWSL season.
- Develop expertise in elite-level coaching and set-play analysis.
- Receive valuable mentorship and guidance from the goalkeeper coach.
- Gain hands-on experience in coaching, training delivery, and opposition analysis at the highest level of women’s soccer in the U.S.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong ability to serve footballs at a high standard in goalkeeper sessions.
- Experience planning goalkeeping sessions based on realistic, game-related scenarios.
- Understanding of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for goalkeepers and ability to develop sessions to support the professional development of goalkeepers.
- Proficiency in computer software (experience with Hudl Sportscode is a plus but not required).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and directly with athletes.
- Ability to pass a background check and become Safe Sport Certified.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 50 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, typing, etc.
