Position Overview
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for managing and underwriting complex multi-line accounts, conducting in-depth policy reviews, and providing leadership within the underwriting team. The Senior Underwriter serves as a key resource for driving profitability, mentoring junior team members, and maintaining high service standards. Responsibilities include pricing policies for new and renewal accounts, managing vendor relationships, and working collaboratively with internal teams such as insurance services, agency services, program management, and marketing. This role oversees Commercial Liability and Commercial Property policies for public and affordable housing accounts within their assigned territory.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the performance of accounts within the assigned territory, ensuring profitability and retention.
- Provide advanced analysis of risks, leveraging expertise to evaluate and price complex accounts.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including members, agents, and brokers, to support business growth and retention goals.
- Lead underwriting strategies to support organizational objectives and program initiatives.
- Act as a mentor to underwriters, providing guidance and sharing best practices to enhance team performance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and underwriting guidelines.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on product development, policy revisions, and market strategy.
- Analyze industry trends and emerging risks to proactively recommend changes to underwriting policies.
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Expertise in critical thinking and problem-solving, with a strong understanding of how decisions impact organizational goals.
- Advanced understanding of risk management, contracts, credit reports, and financial analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in leveraging technology and analytics tools to support underwriting decisions.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, with a proven track record of success.
- Advanced knowledge of Commercial P&C insurance, including liability and property lines.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex accounts and developing strategic solutions.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Self-driven with the ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, both now and in the future.
- Agent’s license.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation or equivalent certifications.
- Experience in public or affordable housing insurance.
Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
