What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Co-Op Student position at RealTruck Group Inc?
POSITION SUMMARY
Primarily responsible for providing engineering and design support to RealTruck corporate engineering for engineering pick-up truck Bed Covers (a.k.a. Tonneau Covers) and related truck accessory components manufactured by RealTruck. Projects will include a variety of assignments with increasing responsibility including CAD drawing and design, 3D printing, finite element analysis (FEA), prototype fabrication and assembly, testing and analysis, presentations, and manufacturing/tooling support for both aftermarket and OEM product lines. The rotation of assignments during the course of completing the engineering degree will culminate in a mutually agreed thesis topic prior to full-time employment.
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Engineering & Design – Apply engineering principles learned to date for the purpose of creating innovative designs, concepts and complete product engineering. Provide drawing and design support as required during the internship. Must be capable of designing in SolidWorks (training will be provided as necessary). Coordinate design-related workload with designated Design Engineer. Includes use of finite element modeling and related analysis when possible or needed.
- Drawing Release/ ECN – Utilize the RealTruck drawing release and engineering change processes when required.
- Prototype Fabrication – Utilize onsite machine shop and equipment, including 3D printers, CNC Mill, CNC Plasma Table, Welders, etc., to construct prototype components and assemblies for proof of concept and/or testing.
- Testing – Participate in a variety of testing, using in-house equipment as well as external test partners. Perform product fit-up sessions, installing per the installation instructions and checking fit and function.
- Continuous Improvement -- Identify, analyze, and implement continuous product design improvement to reduce warranty and improve manufacturing process efficiency, safety, quality, and cost (value analysis/value engineering [VA/VE]) as assigned.
- Presentation – Required to make a brief presentation to the Engineering team at the end of each work term that highlights duties assigned and accomplishments.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering degree from Kettering University.
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Must have the ability to use SolidWorks for design and analysis. Training will be provided as needed.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or have a U.S. Permanent Resident (Green) Card.

Travel
- Generally, travel is not anticipated. However, there may be opportunity to work at a RealTruck operation within the continental United States. In the event travel is required, all travel expenses will be paid for by the company per travel policy in effect.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position is subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Working Conditions
- The position is located within a technical office environment with proper HVAC where a private desk/cubicle will be provided. Further, there are shop facilities which are both environmentally controlled, and not environmentally controlled (Machine Shop, Vehicle and Mock-up areas). These facilities are separate from production facilities.
