We are looking for a full time Coding Specialist to join our amazing Coding team in Vancouver, WA. The Coding Specialist will primarily be responsible for processing daily office visit charges and may perform job duties of surgery support. The ideal candidate will possess great organizational skills and energy, a can-do attitude, a desire to learn the practice, and a collaborative team spirit. This position will be trained on-site at our Stone Mill office location in Vancouver, WA, with the possibility of moving to remote work.

- Complete charge passing as assigned.
- Review charge passing data and chart notes for accuracy, make changes to codes if appropriate, document justification for changes, and process charges in computer system. Communicate feedback to providers as necessary.
- Enter/edit data based on office policies, payer policies and specific coding criteria.
- Strive to meet turnaround benchmark of 72 hours.
- Review denials from Business Office, make corrections or provide explanation as needed.
- Provide education to providers on coding issues as appropriate.
- Attend meetings and workshops as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Surgery coding prep: Coordinate patient account updates and registering of new ER admit patients, create surgical/hospital consult encounters, organize hospital paperwork, notify surgical coder when surgical case is ready to be coded.
- Verify accuracy of surgical encounters
- Notify doctors of missing or incomplete dictation.
- Maintain working knowledge of Practice management, EHR and hospital systems.
- Manage Rosetta holding tank.
- Scan corrected hospital papers and other chart notes in to document management in patient charts.
- Attend meetings and workshops as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Coding and Billing coursework certificate of completion or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience
- PC Certified Procedural Coder Certification.
- Two years of experience with coding and reimbursement activities.
- Knowledge of coding policies, procedures and reimbursement practices.
- Knowledge of insurance carrier guidelines.
- Skill in using computer and calculator.
- Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Skill in using 10-Key by touch, spreadsheet and computer capability.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
