About the Role :
The Vice President of Engineering is a member of the technology leadership team and reports to the CPTO. The role has two key components :
People & Culture : Beyond your team, People includes everyone that you interact with inside and outside of the organization. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you are expected to be a strong people leader who brings people together as you accomplish work and enhance the Recast Culture. Your way of working and interacting should focus on the balance between what should be done and what can reasonably be done today as you bring people together. Plan, Build, Execute, Evaluate : These steps are obviously the bread-and-butter of engineering leadership. This approach captures the naturally iterative approach to software development. All expected items naturally fall under these 4 areas, a small number with joint ownership. As an example, technology strategy will be decided with the CPTO with significant input from the VP of Product. Likewise, you will have significant input into the product strategy and product roadmaps. You will be responsible for product delivery, technical debt, software quality, and engineering metrics, including OKRs. There are numerous stakeholders both inside and outside the department.
Key Role Responsibilities :
- Key steward of our practical and forward-thinking technology strategy
- Collaborate across the organization (ELT, SLT, and others) to understand product and business gaps to determine how technology should anticipate and respond.
- Translate company-wide vision into departmental goals for engineering team(s). Work with teams on iterative, practical improvements.
- Guide product development to reduce scope, duplicated efforts, & errors while increasing effectiveness.
- Recruit and retain top engineering talent to create a world-class engineering team and culture.
- Works cross-functionally to ensure success, alignment on expectations, understanding of risks and mitigation.
- Adapt the structure of the engineering team(s), roles, and work streams necessary to achieve Recast's goals
- Work closely with Recast's CPTO, Chief Architect, and product leadership to create consistent standards, technologies, and frameworks across multiple products.
- Effectively communicate vision and road map to engineering team so that team understands and has opportunity to question decision making
- Define, measure, and report metrics for engineering efforts toward product goals and align resources towards business priorities
- Ensure quality and security standards are met
