Our Benefits and Payroll Manager will be responsible for implementing and managing employee benefits and payroll programs (US/CAD) to ensure they align with organizational goals and compliance requirements. The Benefits and Payroll Manager is also responsible for administering all payroll and benefits for the company, including payments, timekeeping, leave administration, wage garnishments, health, vision, dental, FSA/HSA, transportation benefits, life insurance, disability, RRSP, WSIB, 401K, remittances, and other benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and Process company-wide benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K, FSA/HSA, COBRA, wellness benefits, WSIB (Canada), RRSP (Canada), and others, ensuring smooth execution across US and Canada.
- Maintain, and oversee payroll systems, including ADP implementation, and manage payroll changes such as onboarding, offboarding, raises, LOAs, and garnishments.
- Ensure seamless data transfer between HRIS and benefits providers, maintain payroll records, tax filings, and unemployment records, and ensure compliance with end-of-year tax filings for US and Ontario, Canada.
- Liaise with benefits brokers and vendors, manage short-term and long-term disability claims and lead interdisciplinary audits (e.g., 401K, RRSP, payroll, workers compensation).
- Ensure compliance with payroll and benefits-related laws across 20 US states and Ontario, Canada, ensuring internal policies align with local regulations.
- Collaborate with People and Finance teams to align payroll and benefits practices and support company-wide initiatives.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing payroll and benefits inquiries, resolving issues, and administering LOAs.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree required; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred. Additional HR certifications are a plus.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in payroll and benefits management, with expertise in multi-jurisdictional payroll, tax laws, unemployment procedures, and compliance for the US and Canada.
- In-depth knowledge of legal obligations related to LOAs, CPP, EI, wage garnishments, COBRA, withholding, federal and state reporting, and other applicable laws/regulations.
- Experience working with EORs, handling M&A payroll schedules, and generating internal/external reports. Ability to create SOPs and presentations for payroll and benefits processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and HR-specific solutions like ADP Workforce Now. Strong organizational, communication, attention to detail, and time management skills.
