Job Description: Community Engagement Specialist

Summary/Objective: CES’ are individuals who support all clients with serious mental illness, substance abuse, co-occurring or co-existing disorder(s) that are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization or are currently committed. CES workers engage individuals seeking long-term, short-term, or outpatient treatment and complete referrals, as necessary. CES will report directly to the facility Program Director and work throughout the community to ensure linkage to a myriad of services. CES employees are a community broker, ensuring high probability of positive outcomes. CES employees are also responsible for communicating with all necessary entities to accept, schedule, and conduct intakes into the facility. Works directly with the Intake Manager to arrange intakes.

- Identification and cultivation of a myriad of community wide services and supports – key to meeting the varying needs of those served.
- Promote after-hours and non-traditional availability to meet individual needs of those served.
- Supervise all functions of the non-medical, social detox unit and provide a safe and drug-free environment for participants.
- Conduct new intake orientations and ensure proper documentation and policies & procedures are completed.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, WVARR and local regulations.
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
- Coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings that may include but are not limited to representatives from the following areas: shelters, housing, hospitals, primary health care, behavioral health care, employment, education, justice system, and other resources that promote successful living in the community.
- Assist Phase 2 Coordinator in connecting individuals to personal and community support necessary to live independently.
- Assure that there is a written methodology for identifying all admissions/discharges from institutions within the catchment area.
- Actively participate in admission/discharge meetings to ensure seamless transitions into the community – promoting individual stability.
- Coordinate with Family and Community Support Grantees to access, monitor and disperse supplemental funds for emergent needs on a case-by-case basis for individuals.
- Access and provide referrals to high-risk consumers for HIV, TB, and Hepatitis.
- Participate in peer reviews.
- Maintain a minimum caseload of 20-30 individuals.
- Assist entities with placing individuals in a Recovery Point West Virginia Program, including probation, parole, family members, attorneys, service providers, and judges.
- Input all new participants into the FYI data base immediately upon entry and ensure data is complete for all current participants.
- Work with staff, residents, community agencies and others to help schedule appointments, events, volunteer opportunities, and other events/appointments, as necessary.
- Help to maintain an environment that is consistent with the peer-driven, social model of recovery, resolve potential conflicts for the purpose of ensuring a safe, recovery-conducive environment.
- Respond to a variety of situations in a calm manner and take appropriate action to resolve any situations and communicate with other Leadership staff when necessary.
- Meet with caseload periodically to document progress, needs, and overall recovery capital.
- Represent Recovery Point West Virginia on behalf of participants who have court hearings during their time at Recovery Point.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Qualifications: High school diploma or its equivalent required. Minimum eighteen months continuous sobriety, if in recovery. CADC a plus, Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field preferred, WV Peer Credential (PR) a plus. Minimum of one year work experience in the field of addiction or related field.. You must possess a valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Must have excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to respond to various situations that may occur. Must have the ability to adjust availability to work as needed as the position may require work in the evenings, some weekends, and to be on-call, as needed. The position requires you to be able to relate to the workings of the Recovery Point model and to work within established policies. Public speaking skills is an plus.
Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in an office setting but the ability to travel to and from locations is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
