JOB SUMMARY
The Parks and Recreation Supervisor - Leisure Programs oversees the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of recreational activities and leisure programs for a community or organization. This role involves managing a variety of recreational services, including sports leagues, fitness classes, arts and crafts, youth programs, special events, and outdoor recreation. The supervisor will be responsible for supervising staff, volunteers, and participants, ensuring programs are safe, accessible, and engaging for diverse age groups. They will work closely with local community organizations, maintain budgets, and track program success to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement, and supervise a wide range of leisure and recreational programs and activities.
- Manage and coordinate seasonal schedules for sports, camps, and community events.
- Hire, train, and supervise staff and volunteers for program delivery.
- Ensure that programs comply with safety standards and community regulations.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and resources needed for program activities.
- Monitor budgets and ensure effective use of program funds.
- Promote leisure programs through marketing and outreach efforts to increase community participation.
- Evaluate the success of programs through participant feedback, surveys, and performance metrics.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for program delivery and safety.
- Provide excellent customer service to participants, families, and community members.
- May have additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field, preferably from a National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) accredited college or university; OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of proven experience in recreation/special event program planning, implementation, evaluation and supervision; OR 5 years proven experience in recreation/special event, community or civic, outreach or non-profit management.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- At least 21 years of age
- Current driver’s license issued by state of residence.
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS (with or without accommodation)
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during program supervision, event planning, and fieldwork, including various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and outdoor environments.
- Willingness to work in both indoor and outdoor settings, sometimes under less-than-ideal weather conditions, especially during events or field activities
- Ability to handle the physical demands of supervising recreational activities, including lifting and moving equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to manage various tasks simultaneously (e.g., filling out forms, managing program schedules, assisting participants) with hand-eye coordination.
- May be required to assist in setting up or breaking down event structures, sports fields, or playground equipment, which could involve bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Use manual dexterity to handle equipment and technology.
- Have clear vision and hearing for monitoring events and ensuring safety.
- Respond quickly to emergencies, including assisting with injuries or evacuations.
