Job Summary:
The Job Cost Controller is responsible for tracking all financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, cost estimation, and reporting. This position involves working closely with project managers, finance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure projects stay on track financially and comply with financial controls.
Key Responsibilities:
Budgeting & Cost Estimation:
- Collaborate with project managers and estimators to develop accurate project budgets.
- Assist in setting up cost codes and categories for different aspects of the project.
- Ensure that the project budgets align with the estimated costs and contractual agreements.
Cost Tracking & Monitoring:
- Monitor project expenditures, ensuring that they remain within the approved budget.
- Track labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs in real time.
- Identify any potential cost overruns or discrepancies early and provide corrective action.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare regular cost reports for project managers and stakeholders, highlighting any budget variances.
- Provide a detailed analysis of cost trends, helping identify areas for cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Invoicing & Documentation:
- Ensure that invoices from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers are processed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Verify that payments are in line with contract terms and project budgets.
- Maintain and organize documentation related to project costs for auditing and reporting purposes.
Forecasting & Financial Controls:
- Assist in financial forecasting and trend analysis, ensuring projects stay within financial expectations.
- Work with the project management team to adjust forecasts based on changes in project scope or timelines.
- Implement and maintain financial controls, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Collaboration:
- Liaise with project managers, procurement teams, and other departments to ensure financial objectives are met.
- Communicate effectively with external contractors and vendors regarding cost issues.
- Attend regular project meetings to provide financial insight and updates.
Cost Close-out:
- Oversee the finalization of job cost reports at the close of the project.
- Ensure that all costs have been accurately accounted for, and that the project financials are closed in accordance with company policies.
