Overview

The Transportation Project Manager / Estimator is a pivotal role within our organization, responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of transportation projects. This position is crucial in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Transportation projects can range from highway construction to bridge maintenance and public transit initiatives, necessitating a strong understanding of both technical specifications and logistical considerations. The Project Manager / Estimator serves as the primary contact for stakeholders, ensuring effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. With the increasing focus on infrastructure development and maintenance, this role plays a significant part in shaping the transportation landscape, enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Strong leadership, analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of transportation systems are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans and timelines for transportation projects.
  • Conduct cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Analyze project requirements and specifications.
  • Manage project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks throughout the lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings and maintain open communication.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Prepare and present project reports to senior management.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes to meet industry standards.
  • Implement innovative solutions to improve project efficiency.
  • Train and mentor junior staff in project management practices.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate completed projects for lessons learned and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management or estimating.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation industry standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Primavera or MS Project.
  • Proficient in cost estimation tools and techniques.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
  • Experience in contract administration and negotiation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety and compliance regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or other design software is a plus.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
