Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team for a 5-month contract. The technician will be responsible for performing laboratory testing in the detection, diagnosis, and prognosis of diseases, as well as collaborating with the laboratory team to provide quality testing services to clients. The ideal candidate will have experience with both routine and complex lab tests, equipment maintenance, and quality control procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow established lab procedures for the accurate handling and processing of specimens.
- Perform moderate to high-complexity lab procedures in accordance with departmental standards and protocols.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of technical procedures and instrumentation.
- Review and ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manuals.
- Operate and troubleshoot both simple and complex laboratory equipment, performing maintenance and basic repairs as needed.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new employees and monitor their progress.
- Provide guidance and support to peers and other personnel in the laboratory.
- Conduct quality control procedures and maintain detailed records.
- Analyze quality control data, identify trends or issues, and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Review test results for accuracy and completeness before releasing them in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration on laboratory instruments, documenting all actions.
- Troubleshoot and document issues related to laboratory instruments or reagents, escalating problems when necessary.
- Follow protocols for acceptance / rejection of test results and ensure timely specimen transport.
- Complete routine and STAT testing within acceptable turnaround times.
- Review Pending Logs, resolve specimen issues, and escalate unresolved issues to the next shift.
- Participate in the evaluation and development of new procedures, methods, and instruments.
