Key Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation & Review:
- Prepare individual (1040) and business tax returns, including corporations (1120, 1120-S) and partnerships (1065).
- Assist with filing extensions and estimated payments for clients.
- Organize and input client financial data into tax preparation software.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of tax filings, following up with clients for missing documentation.
Client Support & Communication:
- Communicate with clients to collect necessary information and answer basic inquiries.
- Schedule meetings and assist with client onboarding, ensuring all required documents are in place.
- Help track filing deadlines and maintain organized records for timely submissions.
Team Support & Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Tax Manager & Partner to meet filing deadlines.
- Provide administrative assistance with engagement letters, reports, and deliverables.
- Participate in team meetings to monitor progress and coordinate workloads.
Research & Compliance:
- Stay updated on changes in federal, state, and local tax laws relevant to the firm’s clients.
- Perform basic research on tax issues to assist with client inquiries.
Work Schedule & Expectations:
- Seasonal Tax Associate: January-April 15th and as needed August through October 15th (approximately 20-30 hours per week during spring tax season).
- Full-Time Tax Senior: 50-60 hours per week from February – April 15th. Summer months might average around 16-24 hours per week (depending on workload). August through the end of the year would be regular 40-hour weeks.
- Hybrid Work Option: Combination of remote work and in-office presence, depending on client needs and deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s in Taxation or CPA pursuit is a plus).
- At least 3 years of tax preparation experience (internship experience will be considered).
- Familiarity with tax preparation software (experience with UltraTax is a plus).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
- Basic knowledge of individual and corporate tax regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and cloud-based tools.
