Job Scope
The Director of Project Management is responsible for the on-time and on-budget completion of major construction and hard surfacing projects.
This role encompasses multiple concurrent projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from initiation to completion and handover to operations. Experience in the metals recycling industry is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Full responsibility for managing multiple simultaneous projects in various locations, each project valued between $50K to $10M at different stages of conception, design, and build. Projects may include non-ferrous recovery systems, automobile shredders, buildings/warehouses, and concrete/asphalt paving.
- Complete responsibility for the full lifecycle of a project, including permitting, environmental review, design and engineering, budgeting, scheduling, contract bidding and negotiation, site preparation, construction, testing, quality assurance, inspection, and handover to operations.
- Hands-on onsite management of electrical, metal fabrication, control systems, concrete, engineering, environmental, welding, and general construction contractors required to complete project activities.
- Participation in multi-year strategic planning for construction projects. Suggests schedules, budgets, and scopes changes to proposed major projects to remove constraints and increase the likelihood of on-time and on-budget completion.
- Responsible for managing employee and contractor safety programs on construction and hard surfacing projects, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations during design and build phases.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned or directed.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering. Applicable hands-on construction experience managing large projects will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working on large civil or industrial construction projects.
- Minimum 1 year experience of complete responsibility for managing construction projects as an on-site project manager.
- Working knowledge of concrete and asphalt pavements.
- Working knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical, industrial control systems, surveying, and engineering, and steel-framed construction, and experience managing contractors in these fields.
- Experience managing budgets and providing budget updates to project sponsors and accounting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in Microsoft Project, Primavera, or substitute project management software.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills, and influencing skills.
- Prior experience in the metals recycling/scrap industry is preferred but not required. Knowledge of non-ferrous recovery systems and aluminum processing is preferred. Mining and minerals, and related industry experience is also helpful.
