What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Principal position at Red Bud Middle School?
The job of Assistant Principal is done for the purpose/s of supporting the Principal, performing school site activities as may be delegated by Principal; assisting in the planning, supervising and evaluating the instructional program; and representing the school within the district and community.
- Assists a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. substitute personnel, grounds maintenance, school based testing requirements, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
- Assists in protecting the instructional time from unnecessary interruptions and intrusions for the purpose of enhancing excellence, equality and equity for staff and students.
- Assists principal in interviewing candidates for certified and classified positions for the purpose of providing adequate staffing for the instruction of students and to support the academic process.
- Chairs various committees and/or meetings (e.g. social committee, public relations committee, technology committee, leadership committee, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, division and/or state objectives.
- Composes a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
- Coordinates a variety of activities as assigned (e.g. master calendar, volunteers, new student placement, student teachers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring activities are achieved within established guidelines.
- Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
- Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
- Implements policies, procedures and/or processes (e.g. discipline, health, safety, truancy, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
- Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
- Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Prepares a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting actions and/or conveying information to the appropriate parties.
- Promotes a positive learning centered climate for the purpose of assisting in planning, supervising, and evaluating the instructional program.
- Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment.
- Supports assigned principal(s) for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions and in his/her absences serves as principal.
Qualifications: Master's degree and appropriate leadership certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
