Position Description

Title: Part-time Public Transportation Driver

Hours: 16-20 hours (2-3 days) a week with a flexibility in days worked including the possibility of occasional weekends

Wage: $16.50 per hour minimum; DOE

Reports To: CART Manager

Supervises: N/A

Work Location: In Person in Red Lodge, MT

Benefits: Work in an innovative, inspirational and well-respected community foundation focused on building community assets through collaboration. The position is located at the base of the Beartooth Mountains in historic Red Lodge, MT.

Position Description Overview

Carbon County Area Ride and Transit (CART) is designed to meet the needs of people of all ages and abilities with transportation challenges, who may need rides to get to doctor or physical therapy appointments, pick up prescriptions, purchase groceries, visit senior centers, go to civic or social functions, school, work, etc. CART operates two 6-passenger vans and a 13-passenger, 25-foot shuttle bus, five days a week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, to and from ALL communities in Carbon County as well as Billings and Laurel in Yellowstone County. This position requires driving and customer service skills.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR ALL FOUNDATION EMPLOYEES:

  • Coordinate meetings, phone calls, and arrangements with parties both outside and within the organization.
  • Set up and maintain filing systems, track work hours in ClickTime, and maintain an accurate Outlook Calendar.
  • Attend staff /team meetings, professional meetings, and trainings as requested.
  • Treat all people with dignity and respect.
  • Treat all clients with absolute confidentiality.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and run errands.
  • Physical, mental, and emotional health adequate to perform duties.
  • A desire to work for a non-profit is a huge plus.

TEAM SUPPORT/ENGAGEMENT

  • Capture stories and photos in your program areas as they happen.
  • Manage professional development opportunities for yourself as it relates to the mission of the strategic plan.
  • Participate in scheduled TEAM meetings, first and third Tuesday of the month (as permitted by your driving schedule).
  • Create and maintain an Outlook shared calendar.
  • Track and submit volunteer hours.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have possessed a driver’s license for a minimum of five years with only minor infractions and have a clean record over the past three years.
  • Must have professional driving experience transporting passengers; no CDL required, but driver needs to demonstrate confidently and capably driving a 13-passenger Shuttle Bus (Ford E-450 Cutaway) in downtown Billings traffic.
  • Must be safety-oriented with strong customer service skills and a desire to help and assist people, especially the elderly, those using mobility devices, persons with disabilities, and veterans.
  • This is a Federally-funded transportation program. Candidate for driver must be able to pass pre-employment drug-testing and be willing to submit to random drug & alcohol tests once employed. (Note: trace amounts of THC are present in all CBD products and will be detected by drug testing).
  • Must be physically able to assist passengers, including pushing/moving wheelchairs with various passengers, helping lift passengers off the ground, changing tires, and assisting in evacuating passengers from vehicles in emergency situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and timeliness. Candidate will be expected to arrive at pick-ups and drop-offs on time and keep careful data and records on passengers, vehicle maintenance, and odometer readings.
  • Familiarity navigating the roads, streets, businesses, medical facilities, and other destinations of Carbon County, Laurel, and Billings is valuable experience. Ability to use a smartphone and navigation software is very helpful.

SPECIFIC POSITION TASKS:

  • Operate a multi-passenger, paratransit van or shuttle bus in a safe manner and in all seasons and road conditions as directed by dispatch.
  • Obey state and local traffic rules and regulations as well as CART policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the safe mechanical operating condition of the assigned vehicle.
  • Pick up and efficiently drop off customers as scheduled.
  • Professionally assist passengers get to and from the vehicle with courtesy and respect.
  • Help passengers carry groceries and other purchases.
  • Collect and report daily ridership data and feedback.
  • Assist transport coordinator in dispatch and administrative functions on a weekly basis.
  • Provide information to clients about Foundation and community events and programs, increasing awareness in those who ride with us.
  • Communicate schedule and other CART information to passengers who may not have access to a computer or smartphone.
  • Assist cleaning and maintaining CART vehicles.
