Outdoor Discovery Instructor – Summer Nature Specialist
Location: Red Oak Camp – Kirtland, Ohio
Pay: $615 per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:15 PM (35 hours per week, 5 activity periods per day)
About Red Oak Camp
Red Oak Camp is a nonprofit outdoor camp where kids explore the wonders of nature through hands-on discovery. Our Outdoor Discovery program teaches campers to identify trees, study rocks, observe wildlife, and understand their local environment in a fun and interactive way.
Job Overview
We are looking for an Outdoor Discovery Instructor to lead small group nature lessons during 5 activity periods per day. You’ll have access to lesson plans, materials, and camp resources to help campers connect with plants, animals, and natural landscapes through observation and exploration.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging nature-based activities focused on leaf ID, geology, and wildlife observation.
- Guide nature hikes, animal tracking, and hands-on learning experiences.
- Use the Science Center and outdoor spaces to bring lessons to life.
- Work with different groups of campers each period, using the same lessons throughout the day.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Background in environmental science, outdoor education, or nature studies preferred.
- Passion for teaching and inspiring kids about nature.
- Strong ability to lead interactive lessons and keep campers engaged.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
