Nature Educator – Outdoor Learning Specialist
Location: Red Oak Camp – Kirtland, Ohio
Pay: $615 per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:15 PM (35 hours per week, 5 activity periods per day)
About Red Oak Camp
Red Oak Camp is a nonprofit outdoor camp where kids explore nature, learn new skills, and develop confidence through hands-on experiences. Our Nature Education program introduces campers to the plants, animals, and ecosystems that make up our local environment.
Job Overview
As a Nature Educator, you will lead 5 activity periods per day, teaching campers about trees, rocks, wildlife, and the natural world. You will have access to teaching resources and lesson plans to help you lead engaging, hands-on sessions inside our Science Center and throughout camp.
Responsibilities
- Lead interactive nature lessons focusing on leaf identification, rocks, animal tracking, and local ecosystems.
- Teach small groups of campers (repeating the same lesson for different groups throughout the day).
- Use provided resources to ensure engaging and successful sessions.
- Facilitate nature hikes, scavenger hunts, and hands-on discovery activities.
- Encourage curiosity and help campers connect with the natural world.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Experience in environmental education, outdoor instruction, or camp programs preferred.
- Passion for nature, ecology, and teaching children.
- Ability to lead hands-on activities and keep campers engaged.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
