We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our growing team. This person will be responsible for overseeing core financial operations and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and government regulations. This position plays a key role in financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and strategic financial planning at Red Pepper.
What You'll Do
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
Monitor and apply evolving financial and tax laws to ensure the company meets all legal and regulatory requirements, including documentation, reporting, and filing standards. - Act as the point of contact for external auditors and manage audit processes
Coordinate audits by preparing necessary reports, answering inquiries, and ensuring accurate documentation; serve as the primary liaison between auditors and internal teams. - Oversee Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and collections
Manage day-to-day billing, invoicing, vendor payments, and collections to ensure cash flow is consistent and processes are efficient and accurate. - Manage monthly and year-end financial close processes
Oversee all journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting tasks needed to close the books on time with accuracy and integrity. - Prepare reports for executive leadership
Develop and deliver clear, actionable financial statements and performance insights to support strategic decision-making at the leadership level. - Manage corporate budgets and forecast financial trends
Lead the budgeting process, monitor performance against budget, and create financial forecasts to support growth planning and resource allocation. - Manage corporate credit cards and spending accounts
Oversee company credit card usage, reconcile transactions, and implement internal controls to manage expenses responsibly. - Maintain and analyze internal financial records
Keep detailed and organized records of all financial activities, analyze data for trends, accuracy, and improvements, and ensure internal systems are always audit-ready. - Review contracts and provide financial assessments
Analyze the financial impact of contracts, identify risks or liabilities, and ensure agreements align with the company's fiscal goals. - Complete other responsibilities as assigned
Support a wide range of finance and operations-related tasks as needed to contribute to the broader success of the organization.
- Proven experience in accounting, AR/AP and collections
- Knowledge of audit procedures and regulatory compliance
- Strong financial acumen with attention to detail
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or a related field
- 3-5 years of accounting or financial management experience with a proven track record in AR/AP, financial reporting and audits
- Experience managing budgets and financial forecasting
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software (Quick Books)
- High level of integrity, confidentiality and attention to detail
