RED-Rochester is a multi-utility generation plant and district energy supplier to one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial parks : the Eastman Business Park. Supporting a 1,200-acre campus, RED-Rochester has the utilities, infrastructure, technical services, support services, space and complementary regional resources to benefit a wide range of industry verticals. We are seeking a Senior Instrument & Controls Technician who enjoys the challenge of installing, maintaining, and coordinating power plant control systems. Our infrastructure consists of a blend of classic and modern industrial assets and requires a person with broad industrial and utilities expertise – able to instruct and advise others; able to manage both up and down the organization; and able to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve success. This role is responsible for maintenance of the plant control systems and instrumentation, coordinating work of the I&C team members and working directly with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic, microcomputer instrumentation and control systems to install, maintain and repair the instrumentation and control systems used in the utility plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates work of the I&C team to assure plant needs are met.
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and adjusts process instruments, used to control and measure variables, such as pressure, flow, temperature, and analytical properties, using precision instruments and hand tools.
- Repairs and maintains pneumatic and electronic final control elements, such as control valves and damper drives.
- May occasionally work in motor starters and other electrical enclosures to debug and repair control system issues.
- Inspects and calibrates instruments and test equipment periodically and adjusts calibration to ensure functioning within specified or established standards.
- Repairs and maintains I / O, power systems, and controller hardware for both programmable logic controllers and distributed control systems.
- Maintains and edits control programming for both Programmable logic controllers and distributed control systems.
- Administers the plant distributed control system to maintain adequate access and change control.
- Works closely with field service of key suppliers to assure plant control systems are operated in safe, secure, and effective manner.
- Coordinates outside contractors to accomplish control system project and maintenance work as required.
- Reconfigures plant controls and operating graphics to make improvements and corrections.
- Assures physical security of sensitive control system equipment is maintained.
- Identifies and implements improvement opportunities to improve the efficiency of RED’s operations.
Education and / or Experience : Two-year associate degree in engineering technology or a related field, vocational school certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ten or more years experience working with industrial utility plant control systems
