The Redding Rancheria is seeking a Recovery Medical Assistant The preferred schedule for this position is Monday - Thursday 7 am to 6 pm.
JOB SUMMARY:
Working under the supervision of the Recovery Director, the Recovery Medical Assistant (MA) assists the Recovery providers in the delivery of outpatient addiction medicine. The MA works compassionately with under-served and vulnerable individuals experiencing drug and alcohol addiction as well as other challenges such as homelessness and/or emotional distress. The MA is responsible for helping to build trust and rapport and ensuring seamless delivery of care, including understanding patient eligibility and fee’s, scheduling new patients and follow up care, corresponding about prescription needs, and supporting the Recovery department in other tasks as assigned. This position requires a working knowledge of NextGen PM and EHR.
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certification as Medical Assistant or 2 years of on the job experience as a Medical Assistant required.
2. Knowledge of medical terminology/procedures, human anatomy and medical law/ethics.
3. CPR certification required.
4. Must be able to function and perform in a fast paced environment, problem solve, be a self-starter and active team player.
5. Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
6. Must be fingerprinted and pass background check.
7. Indian preference.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Assist with the initial admission of patients to the Recovery Program, which may include all Front Office duties, specifically Medical Records and Admissions departments, to scan and retrieve registration documents and health information for the provider.
2. Verify eligibility status through Partnership and schedule patient appointments.
3. Update patient file with personal information as needed; address, phone number, and obtaining treatment authorization signatures.
4. Answer patient telephone calls promptly and courteously.
5. Submit and follow up on prior authorizations, as needed.
6. Assist with data entry and data collection for QIP and/or grants, as needed.
7. Assists with Diversion program and supports the providers by scheduling appointment, collecting samples, and counting medications.
8. Participates in daily recovery team huddles.
9. Set up appropriate trays for providers, and assist with procedures as needed.
10. Take routine vital signs of patients, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; record results in patient charts; determine cause for visit and gather the patient medical history, and chart in the Electronic Health Record.
11. Ensures continuity of care for all patients prescribed Sublocade and ensures medication is ordered and received on time, as well as refrigerated and handled according to policy. Confirms all Sublocade appointments are scheduled with a provider who is trained and qualified to perform the injection in person.
12. Administers Vivitrol, and/or other medications within the MA scope of practice, as appropriate.
13. Perform routine lab tests in clinic setting consistent with training and clinic policies (i.e. EKG, ultra sound, visual acuity, audiometer, pulse oximeter, spirometry breathing treatments, urine dipstick, blood glucose, pregnancy, strep, hemoglobin and hemocults.)
14. Collect urine samples for definitive medication monitoring and urine toxicology through Millennium, including performing appropriate procedures for storage and daily shipping.
15. Maintains all recovery urine toxicology orders and charting in the Millennium database and EHR.
16. Maintains and organizes supplies for POC testing, Millennium cups, labels, and shipping supplies, as well as patient education handouts as necessary.
17. Review provider instructions with patients regarding home care and follow up visits.
