To be considered qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for one of the following two Wastewater Treatment Operator positions.PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under direction of the Wastewater Division Manager, performs semi-skilled operation and maintenance duties at a wastewater treatment facility. These duties are routine and performed within guidelines provided during training and under direct supervision. Employee monitors, maintains and operates treatment facility equipment; ensures wastewater treatment facility operates within regulatory guidelines; collects samples and performs laboratory testing; performs general maintenance on treatment facility equipment and grounds. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence. This description covers the most significant essential and auxiliary duties performed, but does not include other occasional work which may be similar, related to, or logical assignment to the position.The job description does not constitute an employee agreement between the employer and the employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs routine operation and maintenance responsibilities of a wastewater treatment facility.Most situations are resolved using standard procedures and established guidelines. Requires knowledge of procedures and the ability to evaluate and select the correct solution from defined alternatives.With supervision, performs daily operational and general maintenance duties.Performs assigned rounds including adjusting process controls to daily required parameters and monitoring and working with the facility Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.Operates motor vehicles and equipment routinely. Performs laboratory analysis for process control and treatment facility permit compliance.Maintains appropriate, accurate, and legible written and electronic records in compliance with Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) permit, regulatory compliance programs and City maintenance programs.Performs work in a safe, efficient, and effective manner in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and city policies.Performs and supports building and grounds cleaning and maintenance.Supports the operation and utilization of Asset Management for planning, scheduling, and documenting work activities of field staff with respect to priorities identified by the Asset Management Plan.Assists with asset management plan development, supporting the identification of asset inventory and condition, calculating business risk evaluations, determining asset net present value and life cycle costs, and developing alternatives for cost-effective operation and maintenance and long-term investment.Supports condition assessment of existing assets to improve and enhance capital improvement planning and budgeting.This position is part of a shift rotation that includes emergency call-outs during weekends, evenings, and holidays. Additionally, the position requires working weekend shifts as part of the regular schedule.Performs other tasks as assigned within the Wastewater Division and/or the Public Works Department.May attend meetings and serve on various committees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and rarely team lift and/or move more than one hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Telephone system, mobile radio, copy machine, fax machine, computers (including asset management software, Microsoft office programs, SCADA, internet, and similar programs), grit removal equipment, compactors, mechanical screens, parshall flumes, clarifiers, pumps, motors, blowers, gear reducers, filters, compressors, air diffusers, chlorination and de-chlorination equipment, weirs, belt filter presses, polymer equipment, boilers, and any other related equipment, piping, valves and appurtenances, Vactor trucks, backhoe, loader, dump truck, and other City vehicles and maintenance tools and light and heavy equipment required to maintain the public wastewater system.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, confined spaces and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electric shock.The noise level in the field environment is usually moderate, except during certain maintenance duties when noise levels may be loud. Employees in this position are required to work in areas or around equipment which may meet or exceed the OSHA Hearing Conservation sound level. Employees in this position will participate in the City of Redmond Hearing Conservation Program.This position is part of a shift rotation that includes emergency call-outs during weekends, evenings, and holidays.
