The Division of Student Life Student and Campus Life cluster is looking for equity-minded applicants who represent the full diversity of Reed College and who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community. As an Area Coordinator, you will lead a team of talented student leaders.

The Area Coordinator (AC) is a professional staff position that serves as a 12-month live-in role that has primary responsibility for managing the daily operations of one or more of our residence halls on campus and is the primary manager and educator for those communities. The anticipated start date is as soon as April 1, 2024.

Reed is a residential college that provides on-campus housing in small residential communities for a majority of its students in order to sustain vibrant social and intellectual exchange outside of the classroom and laboratory. The residence life team fosters a residential experience where students are supported in their academic pursuits, personal growth, and belonging in the Reed community. We support academic belonging, diversity and respect for human dignity, and student success. The annual salary range for this position is $49,000-$52,500 per year. Pay offers are dependent on experience and are determined in conjunction with an internal pay equity assessment. This is an exempt position on grade 4.

What you'll do

• Supervise, train, and evaluate a student staff of House Advisors (HAs)
• Coordinate individual professional and personal growth opportunities for student staff
• Be available, approachable and responsive to students
• Provide and/or facilitate educational opportunities that enhance student learning and growth in areas including academic and personal success, honor, community, inclusion, and wellness
• Case manage students in respective areas group, which includes conducting meetings with residents as follow-up to violations of the AOD Policy and other disruptive and/or harmful behaviors
• Provide support and advising to students encountering academic, adjustment and/or personal hardships.
• Advise and refer individual students and groups regarding personal and academic needs, Residence Life procedures, and College policies
• Provide support with operations and facilities management
• Actively participate in weekly professional staff meeting
• Housing processes support
• Participate in ongoing personal and professional development in an effort to build and contribute to a thriving community
• Leverage self-awareness, lived experiences and intersecting identities when building effective relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
• Engage and promote health and wellbeing practices for self and community care.
• Create inclusive experiences for accessible, experiential, integrated learning and social interactions with students.
• Embody the values of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in programming, practice, and culture; create inclusive experiences for accessible, experiential, integrated learning and social interactions.
• Serve in an after hours on-call capacity rotation in collaboration with a weekly on-call team.
• Triage students of concern utilizing protocols or making relevant referrals.
• Email correspondence, scheduling, preparation, and follow-up for meetings and miscellaneous tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education, counseling, human development, or a related field, or be enrolled in a masters program
• 2 years experience in higher education in student support capacity
