Position Summary
The General Superintendent provides overall leadership and direction for field operations across multiple projects. Responsible for ensuring all projects are built safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards, this role serves as the senior field authority for superintendents and field teams. The General Superintendent enforces company procedures, mentors field staff, and collaborates closely with project management, preconstruction, safety, and trade partners to drive project success.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Oversight
- Oversee and support multiple jobsite superintendents across active projects.
- Ensure field execution aligns with project schedules, safety plans, and quality requirements.
- Monitor manpower, equipment, and logistics planning for current and upcoming projects.
- Enforce site-specific safety programs and actively promote a culture of safety.
- Conduct regular jobsite walks and inspections to ensure compliance with contract documents, company standards, and best practices.
Planning & Scheduling
- Participate in project preconstruction planning, including site logistics, sequencing, and scheduling strategies.
- Assist project teams in developing and maintaining master schedules using tools like Outbuild, Primavera, or Microsoft Project.
- Lead pull planning and lookahead sessions as part of the company’s LEAN planning efforts.
Team Development & Mentorship
- Mentor, train, and evaluate Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents.
- Help define career paths and performance expectations for field staff.
- Promote field staff development through hands-on coaching and structured feedback.
Trade Partner & Stakeholder Coordination
- Facilitate coordination between trade partners, owners, architects, and project teams.
- Support constructability reviews and early trade engagement during preconstruction.
- Lead and resolve high-level field issues, scope gaps, or scheduling conflicts.
Quality Control
- Oversee implementation of the company’s quality control procedures and inspections.
- Ensure mockups, first-work inspections, and punch processes are executed correctly.
Risk Management
- Identify and address potential safety, schedule, or budget risks proactively.
- Serve as the escalation point for field-related concerns across the region.
Qualifications
- 15 years of progressive field construction experience, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory role.
- Experience managing large commercial or industrial construction projects ($5M–$100M ).
- Strong knowledge of Texas construction markets, codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple jobsites or large, complex projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in project management software (Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam) and scheduling tools.
- OSHA 30 certification required; CHC, CHST, or LEED AP preferred.
