Hospitalist Weekend Package
Saturday and Sunday, 0700-1900
Weekend Package premium pay = 1.5x base hourly rate
This position provides and promotes optimal patient care to inpatients, according to hospital standards.
Reports to the RFH Clinic Director, Inpatient Medical Director and the supervising physician.
- Round on patients ensuring all lab work, diagnostic results and other test results are communicated to the patient and providers as appropriate
- Perform complete medical history and physical exam on patients who are in the hospitalist service
- Minimize threat to patient and staff safety
- Cultivate a relationship of collaboration with referring providers
- Completes daily progress notes and other hospital documentation according to established policies and protocols and in appropriate format and following established procedures for the electronic health record
- Apply approved criteria to monitor appropriateness of hospital admissions and continued stay
- Orders appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures
- Synthesizes data to determine primary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing established medical principles
- Prescribes medications and controlled substances under the rules and regulations of the State of Iowa and the Federal DEA
- Facilitates coordination and development of a comprehensive and individual plan of care in collaboration with patient, family, PCP and multidisciplinary team, including the appropriate venue for continuing care
- Provide timely communication for PCPs particularly during a patient’s admission, discharge and any significant changes in medical status
- Communicates with patients/families to ensure understanding of discharge instructions
- Provides follow-up with patient/family after discharge in conjunction with team member activity
- Help provide leadership and accountability in hospital quality initiatives
- Helps provide leadership in patient safety activities and corrects situations that pose a patient risk
- Work independently, exercising sound judgment, discretion, and initiative to facilitate change as applicable to the scope of practice
- Arrange transfer of patient care between providers and care settings
- Address nurse questions regarding patient’s condition and treatment plan
- ARNP or PA-C
- Previous experience in hospital medicine preferred
- Current license in state of Iowa
- Current ATLS, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
- Drug Enforcement Agency permission to prescribe and maintain controlled substances
- Iowa Controlled Substance certificate
- Child and Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporter Training required
