A Brief Overview
Acts as principal liaison between surgical services, ambulatory surgery practice, physicians and their staffs and Access Center to ensure continuity of service and enhance pre and post-operative/procedural coordination of patient care and communications. Works to ensure that all necessary activities are completed prior to a scheduled surgery and subsequent follow-up appointments. Works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to improve patient services and clinical quality.

What you will do
- Works with attending surgeons and residents to obtain information, provide consultation and assistance to ensure that patient surgeries are coordinated in an efficient manner. Assists oncology surgeons in scheduling oncology surgeries.
- Serves as liaison and acts as an intermediary, as needed, to maintain positive channels of communication between surgeons, practice and surgical services staff, patients and referring providers.
- In conjunction with physicians and oncology practice staff, coordinates patient's surgical plan of care for appropriate sequencing of pre-operative care. Works closely with physicians and clinic personnel to guide and support the surgical patient from scheduling to discharge from surgical services.
- Consults with physican and unit managers to identify service specific needs.
- Provides ongoing communication with interdisciplinary staff to identify and proactively resolve potential barriers. Routinely acts as a clinical resource/consultant for problem identitcation and resolution.
- Schedules patients in the Surgical Information System and ensures the accuracy of all required information is documented and readily available.
- Schedules, and as necessary coordinates patient’s pre-admission testing (PATS) visit.
- Coordinates pre-certifications and authorizations, and works collaboratively with practice and other staffs to ensure pre-certifications and authorizations are received and documented timely.
- Using clinical knowledge and appropriate criteria, in conjunction with physicians, manages efficient patient flow and anticipates/documents admission status.
- Reviews the surgery and other procedural schedules and validates accuracy of information, including order of cases and attending physician.
- Maintains ongoing communication with surgical team regarding schedule, delays, and add-on cases.
- Serves as a consultant, coordinator and educator with medical staff related to issues of pre-surgical status/type, order requirements and utilization of resources.
- In collaboration with educator, establishes an orientation and education plan for the specialty service and updates clinical practice changes.
- Serves as point of contact for physicians with special request for surgery and procedural practices
- Screens and ensures that patients are scheduled in the appropriate practice and that any diagnostic services are ordered and performed prior to the patient’s scheduled visit in the practice
- Assists with identifying and coordinating access to other services, including but not limited to: rehabilitation therapy, transportation, and social services, for patients, specifically patients with complex care coordination needs.
- Ensures the necessary patient information and records from referring providers are obtain, complete and available for providers prior to the patient’s scheduled appointment.
- Plans for all oncology surgery patient care needs by reviewing the appropriateness of scheduled cases and availability of supplies/equipment.
- Works, in conjunction with Surgical Services Business Operations Manager, to ensure that service specialty supplies and equipment are ordered, available and maintained.
- Routinely prepares and maintains provider preference cards and monitors utilization of identified supplies and equipment.
- Provides list of capital equipment needs in preparation for budget
- Assist the circulating nurse to troubleshoot the DaVinci surgical system during robotic procures
- Assist with orientation of staff in robotic and all oncology cases.
- Shares responsibilities and provides coverage for relief and absences within oncology surgery practices as required.
- Routinely prepares and maintains provider preference cards and monitors utilization of identified supplies and equipment.

Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved nursing school/program. Required and
- Bachelor's Degree BSN Preferred
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure licensure or permit to work in the state of TN. Upon Hire Required and
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire Required or
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
- Minimum 2 years experience surgical experience Preferred
