What are the responsibilities and job description for the APP-Ortho position at Regions Hospital?
The Advanced Practice Provider in Orthopaedic Services is responsible for the coordination of care of orthopaedic patients. In the operating room and on the nursing units, the position will first assist the surgeon by preparing grafts, closing the incision and first and second assisting the surgeon as needed.
On the inpatient nursing unit, this position will coordinate the patients care and assist the surgeon in directing the post operative nursing care for these patients. The major functions in this environment consist of patient assessment, writing medication and treatment orders and performing, or directing specific tasks. Daily and rotating inpatient weekend rounding and/or call is expected in this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience: No experience required.
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the State of Minnesota.
Physician Assistant Certification required OR Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of MN. Current Nurse Practitioner Certification required. BLS or ACLS certification required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with peers, students and other health care personnel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to document patient notes and orders using EPIC.
- Knowledge of personal computers and appropriate software.
- Ability to access and analyze pertinent information in order to make care decisions.
- Ability to First and Second assist including closing wounds, preparing graphs, etc.
- Ability to apply and remove casts and splints.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Prefer 1-2 years’ experience in the orthopedic surgery and clinic environment which includes First Assisting and seeing patients independently.
