The President of Regions Hospital is responsible for overall operations strategic planning, program development, and coordination of all activities for Regions Hospital. This role reports to the EVP and COO of HealthPartners Care Group and is responsible to the Regions Hospital Board. The President serves as a member of the Regions Hospital Governing Board, and President of the Regions Hospital Foundation Board. This role administers, directs, and coordinates all activities of Regions Hospital to carry out its mission to provide high quality health care, the education of health professionals, healthcare research, and participation in community health programs. The President is responsible for promoting and maintaining a positive colleague culture, prioritizing workplace safety and security for patients, visitors, and colleagues and continuous improvement and commitment to high reliability principles. This role is responsible for the effective utilization of the Hospital’s physical and financial resources, is chief spokesperson for the Hospital’s public positions and policies and represents Regions Hospital and HealthPartners in the community.
Accountabilities:
- Directs the overall administration and operations of Regions Hospital inpatient and outpatient to accomplish the goals and objectives adopted by HealthPartners and the Hospital Board to deliver care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, and equitable and meets all with local, state, and national policy requirements. Assures the Hospital’s compliance with state license and quality review requirements, national internal quality requirements, national, federal, and voluntary standards of quality review and third-party payors quality review.
- Leads the Hospital’s executive management team and partners with HealthPartners senior leadership team to carry out the Hospital’s objectives in the areas of short- and long-range goals, strategic planning, finance and fiscal control, communication and interpersonal relationships, marketing, program establishment and evaluation, physical plant and equipment, human resource management, and the development of philanthropic support and alternative revenue sources.
- Develops appropriate linkages and coordinates activities within care delivery at HealthPartners to assure we are acting as a system in all we do. Plans jointly and manages in collaboration with leaders and staff across the HealthPartners care system and broader HealthPartners organization.
- Partners with all HealthPartners hospital leaders on hospital/care delivery strategy and business development, quality, safety, and operations.
- Provides orientation and education for Board members and for Board’s self-evaluation; acts on Board’s directives, reports Hospital’s performance; leads quality safety improvement; evaluates the performance of management; establishes internal policies and procedures relative to goals; monitors medical/professional staff's implementation of quality assurance measures. Works closely with medical staff for quality care, strategic planning, and program development. Makes recommendations in such areas as budgeting and financial issues, strategies and plans, and legislation.
- Analyzes and resolves significant and complex problems which impact the effectiveness of Regions Hospital including administrative organizational structures, administrative and health management problems, patient care activities, corporate relationships, strategic planning, risk management, quality assurance, bio-medical ethics, legal issues, financial and revenue issues, and organizational planning.
- Assesses economic and social changes at local, state, and national levels and maintains dialogue with community health agencies concerning the Hospital’s capacities and plans.
- In conjunction with the Vice President of Medical Affairs, assures that criteria for medical practice and medical staff privileges meet required standards; coordinates medical staff programs, physicians’ contracts for services and educational affiliations with the Vice President of Medical Affairs.
- Responsible for maintaining and growing Regions Hospital as a regional referral center in the upper Midwest (MN, WI, ND, SD, IA), developing relationships with referring providers and hospitals.
- Assures joint planning and rendering of services to and for Gillette Children's Hospital. Assures quality allied health education programs within the Hospital.
- Represents the Hospital in official contacts and planning efforts with the community, health care and health insurance leaders, business leaders, and local, state, and national government officials.
- Reviews and interprets the impact of research on changes in the composition of the health care delivery system, managerial methods, and organizational behavior.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Fifteen (15) years of senior management experience (department director or above), five (5) of which are as a top-level executive (Vice President or above)
- Extensive professional and technical knowledge of health care delivery systems, Hospital management, process improvement and high reliability principles
- Knowledge of marketing, finance, and risk assessment
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with all levels of management, physicians, employees, business, government and community officials and the general public
- Ability to organize, plan, execute, control, and evaluate programs and activities of a large hospital
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Hospital Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA)
