Job Summary:
The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) provides addiction counseling services to residents diagnosed with addictive disorders. Reporting to the Director, the SAC is responsible for conducting assessments, individual and group counseling, and developing treatment plans. This role involves coordinating addiction programming, monitoring therapeutic progress, and collaborating with primary therapists to ensure residents receive the necessary support for rehabilitation. The SAC also assists residents with employment resources and referrals, helping them transition successfully into society.
Parameters of the Position:
- Provide addiction counseling services to residents diagnosed with substance use disorders.
- Conduct assessments related to addiction issues and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
- Develop, implement, and facilitate addiction treatment programs in collaboration with the primary therapist.
- Monitor and document residents’ progress, providing timely feedback regarding mental health concerns that may impact treatment.
- Assist residents in obtaining employment and accessing relevant community resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain clinical documentation of client treatment plans and progress.
- Conduct screenings, evaluations, referrals, and comprehensive assessments for potential clients with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Develop, implement, and document individualized comprehensive treatment plans per contract requirements.
- Provide a minimum of weekly one-on-one counseling sessions for assigned clients.
- Monitor residents’ therapeutic progress concerning treatment goals.
- Refer clients to family counseling sessions when appropriate.
- Prepare and facilitate group sessions and submit timely documentation.
- Complete discharge and aftercare plans for assigned clients before program completion, ensuring discharge summaries are sent to the referring agency within three (3) working days.
- Supervise residents' attendance at required self-help groups and treatment activities, ensuring compliance with treatment plans.
- Maintain all client records in accordance with contract regulations.
- Assist with ongoing audits of client files to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide continuous follow-up and evaluation of assigned residents’ progress.
- Utilize various counseling techniques to help residents develop insight, motivation, and self-control to reduce substance use and prevent relapse.
- Attend all required clinical meetings and training sessions.
- Make appropriate referrals to external community resources.
- Collaborate with case managers to coordinate necessary services for clients.
- Serve as a member of the Program Review Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in addiction counseling services.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certification or licensure in an addiction counseling specialty (e.g., Certified Addiction Counselor, Registered Addiction Counselor), or status as a Counselor in Training under supervision.
- State licensure in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology is preferred.
- Current CPR certification is preferred.
Clearance Requirements:
- Must meet all contract requirements with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Must pass an NCIC criminal background check after receiving a conditional job offer.
- Employees will be fingerprinted and subject to investigation by the Bureau of Prisons or a designated agency.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
