Essential Functions:
We are seeking a creative initiative-taking and experienced Food Equipment Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing new equipment applications specifically for the food industry. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including meat technology, engineering, equipment-supplier R&D, manufacturing, and field service, to deliver innovative, efficient, and safe food processing solutions.
Job Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Design & Development:
- Lead the design, development, prototyping, and testing of new food processing equipment working closely with the meat technology group.
- Develop detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and schematics using CAD software. (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
- Innovate and improve new equipment design performance, energy efficiency, and safety features for food production.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Teamwork:
- Work closely with the Meat Technology Team, engineering, and field service teams to understand technical requirements and ensure feasibility of designs.
- Collaborate with internal equipment supplier teams to ensure compliance with manufacturing standards and with regulatory standards.
- Prototype Testing & Validation:
- Oversee the testing of new prototypes and equipment in real-world food production environments.
- Analyze test results, refine designs, and iterate to ensure optimal performance under different operating conditions with the goal of improving the design for commercialization.
- Optimization & Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement of new equipment designs to enhance productivity, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Identify and implement design modifications to improve overall system performance and reduce downtime.
- Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all equipment designs comply with local and international food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, NSF, USDA, etc.).
- Stay updated on new industry standards, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Project Management:
- Lead and manage engineering projects, from concept through to commercialization, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
- Create and maintain project documentation, including timelines, budgets, and progress reports.
- Customer Interaction:
- Collaborate with external customers to understand their needs and requirements as related to the development of new equipment.
- Provide technical support and training to end-users and maintenance teams as required.
Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Food Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing or developing equipment for the food industry or similar sectors.
- Direct experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Proven record of successfully bringing new food processing equipment from concept to production.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of food processing technologies, materials, and food safety standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements in the food industry (e.g., FDA, USDA, NSF).
- Proficient in project management, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
