Job Summary: The Commercial Kitchen Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of commercial kitchen equipment in various establishments such as restaurants, hotels, and institutional kitchens. This role requires technical expertise in diagnosing and fixing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues associated with kitchen appliances to ensure they operate efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Setup:
- Install and set up commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, and ventilation systems.
- Ensure equipment is connected properly to gas, water, and electrical systems, following safety guidelines.
- Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance on kitchen equipment, ensuring they are clean, well-maintained, and in optimal working condition.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions or breakdowns of commercial kitchen equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing issues.
- Replace parts as necessary (e.g., belts, thermostats, seals, and motors).
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and manufacturer instructions to ensure safe operation of kitchen equipment.
- Ensure all repairs and installations are up to code and comply with health, safety, and building regulations.
- Maintain records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs, and ensure compliance with local and national regulations.
- Customer Support:
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand equipment issues and provide appropriate solutions.
- Offer guidance and recommendations to clients on how to use and maintain equipment for better performance and longevity.
- Technical Support:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest kitchen technologies, trends, and equipment innovations.
- Provide technical advice to clients regarding new equipment and upgrades.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment needed for repairs and service calls.
- Order and track parts and supplies, ensuring the necessary components are always available for timely repairs.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or diploma in appliance repair, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC is preferred.
- Experience:
- Proven experience in repairing and maintaining commercial kitchen equipment.
- Experience with a variety of equipment such as ovens, fryers, refrigerators, and dishwashers.
- Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Certifications:
- Certification in commercial appliance repair or related fields is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license (if required for travel to job sites).
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in various environments such as kitchens, restaurants, or other foodservice establishments.
- Physical demands may include lifting heavy equipment, bending, standing, and working in tight or confined spaces.
- Must be available for emergency repairs or after-hours service as needed.
