ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reports to a site supervisor and/or senior level technicians at the C-52 Complex provides comprehensive support in the troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and operations of automated target systems (ATS) and the fabrication, troubleshooting, and repair of stationary metal, wood and cardboard targets. Assists with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment utilized in supporting range/testing/training operations. Performs duties such as: Assembling or installing test/training equipment/apparatuses or components requiring connecting; performing simple or routine tests or mission support requirements; operating and adjusting test/training equipment; recording test/training data; gathering and maintaining specified records of test, training, and maintenance data including updating schematics and drawings; plotting data and generating required reports. Assignments are limited in variety and complexity and are reviewed by supervisor, engineer, or senior technician for adequacy and conformity. Work may be checked by site supervisor or senior level technician. Work is checked in progress or upon completion.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- May assist other test/training sites located in numerous geographical locations on the Eglin range complex including SantaRosa Island.
- Functions will include but not limited to performing pre-mission, during mission and post mission inspection and functions related to mission/test/training support such as Target Observer, road guard support, test/mission coordinating, and checking in, observing and checking out using units utilizing ranges; automated target system (ATS) set-up and operations; inspecting range facilities; gathering range/training/test data; securing ranges and minor repairs of range apparatuses; inspecting vehicles, housekeeping and other duties as assigned.
- Additional functions may include coordinating and setting up road guards for mission/test/training operations; access and navigate Daily Mission Schedules/CSE/RFMSS to interpret site’s daily mission requirements and Range Control Officer functions.
- Must be familiar with the JTTOCC and its function on Eglin AFB.
- Must be familiar with Eglin’s range access procedures (“Z” clearances).
- Must be familiar with radio operations/etiquette as related to Eglin range operations.
- Must be able to navigate the Eglin Test and Training Complex day or night without a map. May work independently or with other technicians to perform functions.
Job Requirements:
OTHER DUTIES: May perform pre, during and post inspections of ranges when being utilized to ensure ranges are being utilized according to procedures/processes and to ensure activities are being conducted according to all safety regulations. May participate in conducting range inspections and assist in range operations. May be required to inspect range facilities, gather range/training/test data, secure ranges, inspect vehicles, maintains vehicles at the user level, housekeeping and other duties as assigned. Will perform general housekeeping, facility inspections, and other job related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste and other duties as assigned. Other functions may include planning and generating estimates and may be required to provide guidance and training to lower level technicians.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and a Certification in a technical field or a graduate of a technical military service school plus six years of related experience is required. 8 years’ experience in working directly in the test/training range environment may be substituted for education requirement.
Incumbent must have at least one of the following:
1. Formal training, acquired through vocational certification or military service school training or a certified apprenticeship program, in at least one of the following disciplines: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, cement work, concrete strength testing, range controlling, surveying, hydraulics, tower maintenance, small engine repair or painting, and 10 years of combined experience in two or more trades mentioned above, of which 5 years has been on the E-OMS contract or,
2. 15 years’ experience in at least two of the following disciplines: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, cement work, range controlling, surveying, hydraulics, tower maintenance, or painting, and five years of E-OMS range experience. High school graduate or equivalent (GED) is required with 8 years related experience with 5 years’ experience on the E-OMS contract working directly with Automated Target Systems, stationary targets, and range training apparatuses test/training range environment related to the USATRs. Must have completed vendor provided training for specified ATSs or completed on-site OJT and demonstrated proficiency working directly with ATSs, stationary targets and apparatus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. The ability to navigate Eglin ranges during the day and night without a map is a plus. Must be able to ascend/descend multiple stories of stairways to perform some job functions. May perform duties both inside and outside and be subjected to a variety of environmental conditions typical to the work area. Candidates must be able to pass required physicals and eye exams related to the job functions. May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work in direct contact with test/training personnel. A valid drivers’ license is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work may be performed at various heights above ground level. May perform duties both inside and outside and be subjected to a variety of environmental conditions typical to the work area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and move heavy items. Must be able to lift 50lbs and negotiate stairways without difficulty.
