What You'll Do:
The Wide Span Crane Coordinator will oversee the efficient and safe operation of the Wide Span Crane (WSC) area, ensuring proper coordination between transfer spot management, inventory, traffic flow, and driver communication. This role will primarily be outdoor work within the terminal or yard area, with occasional office work as required. May involve exposure to loud noises, inclement weather, and potentially hazardous materials.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a physical presence in the Wide Span Crane (WSC) area to monitor unit positioning and proactively address units dropped in incorrect locations.
- Ensure that all units are in the correct transfer spots as per Tide works system assignments.
- Ensure the accuracy of inventory records in transfer spot lanes through regular updates to the Tideworks system.
- Collaborate with BNSF ramp personnel to maintain clear communication regarding unit location and address any discrepancies in inventory.
- Coordinate and facilitate the physical relocation of mispositioned containers and chassis as required.
- Verify that drivers are correctly positioned in the designated transfer spots as assigned by Tideworks.
- Provide immediate guidance and support to drivers when issues arise.
- Optimize operational efficiency by leveraging hostler moves within the WSC area, increasing round trip moves of units.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, addressing any concerns and providing them with estimated times of service.
- Inform drivers about reasons for delays (e.g., weather, maintenance).
- Act as the liaison to relay urgent driver-related issues, system outages, compliance concerns, or load requests to BNSF personnel.
- Assist with rerouting individual drivers in the R/S lanes to optimize workload distribution between production and stacking areas.
- Manage and direct traffic during peak hours or disruptions, such as mechanical issues or delays.
- Collaborate with ramp managers and load planners to support terminal operations, including allocation, DTC (Delivered to Customer), and DTG (Delivered to Gate)
- Educate drivers on terminal procedures, including proper transfer spot assignments, expected wait times, and usage of the Rail pass app
- Facilitate better communication by connecting drivers to the DAB (Driver Assistance Board) for improved customer experience and driver support.
What You'll Need:
Required:
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years in intermodal operations, container management, or related field.
- Proficiency with Tideworks system or similar inventory management systems.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor, and often physically demanding environment.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to walk, stand, or move throughout the yard for extended periods.
- Ability to navigate and manage a fast-paced operational environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with wide span crane operations and inventory management.
- Additional training or certifications in logistics, operations management, or related fields.
