Job Title: Construction Accountant – Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller
Location: Houston, TX 77046 (Upper Greenway/Kirby Area)
Salary: $90,000 - $120,000
Job Overview:
We are looking for a highly organized and proactive Construction Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will manage the accounting operations for our real estate development projects, including overseeing the construction draw process, preparing financial reports, and working closely with vendors and lenders. This role is essential to ensuring our projects run smoothly and are funded on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construction Draw Process: Submit construction draws to the bank with approval and take invoices to the vendor after funding.
- Bank Reconciliations: Prepare monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial records.
- Draw and Reporting Packages: Prepare and review monthly draw packages and financial reports for submission to funding institutions.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and project cash flow balances to ensure timely funding for all development projects.
- Vendor Payments: Prepare weekly check runs to ensure timely payment of vendors and general contractors.
- Process Coordination: Work with the development and accounting teams to refine and maintain processes and procedures.
- Budget Analysis: Perform monthly variance analysis to compare actuals against the construction budget per project.
- Loan Document Review: Analyze loan documents to ensure compliance with lender covenants and financial requirements.
- Communication: Regularly communicate with Project Managers, lenders, contractors, and vendors regarding contracts, invoices, and payments.
- Strategic Planning: Assist in the implementation of the company’s strategic growth plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 4 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction management or real estate development.
- Strong understanding of the construction draw process.
- Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks. Familiarity with Procore is a plus (the company is implementing Procore).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software.
- Experience in accounting for retail construction development projects
