What are the responsibilities and job description for the Venue Sales Manager position at Reno Sparks Convention And Visitors Authority?
The Venue Sales Manager for the RSCVA sells events at the National Bowling Stadium, Reno Events Center, Reno Sparks Livestock Events Center and Reno Sparks Convention Center, including, but not limited to, the following event types: private, corporate, consumer and trade shows, association, public, entertainment, sporting events, livestock, equestrian, community-related events and ticketed events. Responsible for working in conjunction with other members of the sales, marketing and events staff to market the venues and initiate specific event-related promotions to increase revenue.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for maintaining the success of the sales department.
- Responsible for accomplishing monthly and annual sales goals.
- Uses Sales principles to promote the facilities.
- Understands the unique products and services at all venues.
- Research client needs and identifies how to solve them.
- Quotes rates and prepares bids, and/or formal license agreements/ contracts for ticketed and non-ticketed events.
- Creates payment schedules and collects initial deposit.
- Actively solicits local and regional business opportunities and follows up on all leads and pending bookings.
- Executes site visits.
- Works closely with the RSCVA Sales Team and the Events Team.
- Handles all pre-event correspondence and meetings until account is turned over to the Events Team, continuing to provide on-going support and service to clients, during and after an event.
- Uncovers prospects and leads for future business through phone calls, emails, networking, cold calls, and outside appointments.
- Acts as a representative of the RSCVA at networking, public, and private events, and in industry-related local and regional tradeshows, as well as national tradeshows.
- Works closely with the Marketing Team to create sales campaigns, opportunities and collateral.
- Develops and cultivates relationships with clients and maintains close contact to ensure successful events.
- Always maintains high standards, positive attitude, professional appearance and work ethic.
- Understands industry and facility-specific trends.
- Responsible for notifying the Executive Director of Venue Sales and Events about updates and/or changes to client contracts.
- Assists the events teams when they need added coverage.
- May assist in supervising coordinators in the sales and event department.
- Is knowledgeable in the RSCVA Safety Program and takes necessary steps to maintain a safe work environment. Adheres to safe work practices to prevent injuries.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
- Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperate harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVAs strategic goals and objectives.
- Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per RSCVA policy. Provides proper notification for absences and tardies. Takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences or tardies.
- Uses time effectively and constructively. Does not abuse supplies, equipment, and service.
- Observes all RSCVA and departmental policies governing conduct while at work (e.g., telephone and computer use, electronic messaging, smoking regulations, parking, breaks and other related policies).
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree from four-year college or university in marketing, hospitality, public relations, or related field preferred, or minimum 2 years hospitality sales and event planning related experience required, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Facility/industry experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the capacity and capabilities of the four facilities under the RSCVA or similar venues.
- Knowledgeable in recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding various types of events (concerts, tournaments, conventions, sporting events, livestock events, etc).
- Must be familiar with various organizational function principles including administration, operations and management practices, principles of supervision, and personnel practices and techniques, including review techniques, and training methods.
- Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices, contract administration, leasing concessions, rental agreements, language, terms, and legal concepts.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for public assembly, and fire and safety regulations.
- Knowledgeable in the rules and regulations relating to public health and safety in large facilities.
- Knowledge of set-up and tear down requirements for tournaments, rodeos, and events.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. TicketMaster and diagramming experience preferred.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, superiors, visitors, clients, vendors, and the public.
- High aptitude for figures and advanced writing skills.
- Must be highly motivated and self-directed, detail oriented, meet established deadlines, and be professional in performance of duties.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to develop effective written policies, procedures, and practices.
- Must have professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic.
- Requires flexible schedule to cover events.
- Possess a valid Nevada Drivers License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to move around the facilities and walk, sit, bend (at neck and waist), twist, talk, and hear.
- Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation are needed to accomplish essential functions.
- Frequently required to stand for long periods of time during events.Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Lift up to 15 lbs on occasional basis.
WORKING CONDITIONS /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- May require work inside or outside of the building as needed by events.
- May be exposed to various temperatures inside and outside the building, airborne particles, chemicals, and fumes.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office, or moderately noisy when in the field.
