RTC is hiring for a Dean of Nursing! RTC is seeking a passionate individual who will be responsible for the leadership and direction of the Registered Nursing and Nursing Assistant programs within the Allied Health division of the college. This position is responsible for oversight of curriculum and development, scheduling, national accreditation, advisory board development and marketing of the programs. The position also has responsibility for supporting the retention and recruitment of students, including collaboration and contribution towards the college operational and strategic plans.

The Dean of Nursing is a full-time exempt position. The Dean of Nursing will report to the Vice President of Instruction. The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $151,000 annually. The anticipated hiring salary range is between $130,000 - $142,000 annually. The priority consideration date for this position is February 3rd, 2025. We anticipate the successful candidate to begin May 1st, 2025. This position will remain open until filled.

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight for the college’s Registered Nursing and Nursing Assistant Programs that ensures consistency with current, changing and future needs of students and the community.  Evaluate and modify the operation of existing programs and courses in accordance with national and state level Nursing Boards, to maintain or improve instructional quality and to assure adherence to standards, college and instructional goals, and learning outcomes. Ensure that assessment findings of each program insure that all applicable accreditation standards, and their documentation, are met.
  • Provides leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse student populations, including non-native English speakers and those under-represented/ under-served in order to serve the mission of the institution.
  • Lead the national accreditation process in collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction and members of Nursing faculty.
  • Responsible for contacting and maintaining relationships with facilities, industry, and health care organizations to assist faculty in recruiting and placing students in clinical sites and allied health-related experiences.
  • Responsible for the direction and compliance of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program per WAC 246-841-470 and 246-841-490 through 246-841-510.
  • Maintain state health care discipline competencies, standards and assure their continued integration into the program.
  • Participate in and facilitate the recruitment, retention and professional development of full and adjunct Nursing faculty.
  • Promote the development and maintenance of education through involvement on statewide committees and activities.
  • Actively participate with industry to ensure instructional programs are current with industry standards, practices and trends. Implement new and revised courses and classes in accordance with adopted budgets and plans.
  • Participate in the administrative evaluation requirements of tenured and non-tenured faculty. 
  • Foster a broad organizational culture that supports collegiality, personal well-being, and professional development of students, faculty and staff.  
  • Perform other duties, such as accreditation documentation and activities, as appropriate.
  • Represent the college as requested to develop, promote and enhance Allied Health and professional/technical education activities, including serving on college, community and statewide committees.
  • Participate in relevant on- and off-campus committee work, state and community boards and activities as appropriate and assigned by the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse and under-represented student populations.

Operational Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the supervision, orientation and evaluating of assigned faculty and staff in adherence to negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, as well as College policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all faculty are appropriately certified and/or licensed.
  • Work individually with all Nursing faculty to develop professional development plans, including activities that improve clinical skills and methods of demonstrating continued educational and clinical competence   
  • Conduct program review and continual assessment of assigned programs.
  • Ensure areas of responsibility operate effectively within the policies and procedures of the college and appropriate governmental agencies.  Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and specifications for areas of responsibility.
  • With appropriate faculty, assist in development of instructional program and budgets with control expenditures for each.
  • Assists in the management of facilities and equipment including: controlling inventory, notifying maintenance and custodial personnel when necessary and in locating appropriate space for activities.
  • Assist in resolving student issues, including concerns. 
  • Support and participate in grant applications relevant to program area.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Washington State or the ability to obtain license upon hire.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Nursing education.
  • Ability to accurately evaluate instructional activities (e.g. programs, courses, and projects) and previous experience supervising instructors and other assigned personnel.  Experience coaching and mentoring staff is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team supporting the college’s mission, vision, and shared governance processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners. Skilled with interpersonal communications, conflict resolution and organizational management.  
  • An understanding of and commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically experience creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team within the department and with other college faculty, staff and administration.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of, understanding of and commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese). 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 
Working hours are generally aligned to the college business hours, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
