Renton Technical College (RTC) seeks a Unity Center Manager to support the launch and management of the new Unity Center- a vibrant space designed to honor and celebrate all identities and backgrounds. Guided by the Unity Center’s mission, the Manager will deliver culturally responsive educational programming and initiatives that center equity, social consciousness, and holistic student support.


The Manager will oversee the Center’s operations, train, and supervise student employees, and collaborate with campus departments to provide support and services. The Manager will design and implement high-impact, evidence-based programs and practices that fosters leadership development, holistic support, and sense of belonging for students, faculty, and staff. This position aligns with RTC’s Be the Place Strategic Equity Plan and state mandates (RCW 28B.10.151, RCW 49.60.030, RCW 49.60.400) to create a welcoming and equitable campus community through equity-centered initiatives, leadership development, and community-building efforts. 


The Unity Center Manager is a full-time admin/exempt position, and may be overtime eligible based on salary placement. This position will be reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Retention within the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $80,000 annually. The priority consideration date for this position is February 3rd, 2025. This position will remain open until filled.

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Oversee the launch and ongoing management of the Unity Center, ensuring equitydriven, sustainable programming that serves diverse student populations, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA , low-income, and first-generation students.
  • Design and facilitate Center programs, workshops, events, and mentorship initiatives to build leadership, collaboration, and DEI advocacy skills among students, staff, and faculty.
  • Manage the Unity Center’s operational budget, including planning, monitoring, and reporting expenditures to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and fiscal accountability.
  • Utilize data and feedback to evaluate program effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure alignment with the Unity Center’s mission and the college’s Be the Place Strategic Equity Plan.
  • Provide leadership in planning and implementing institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, including Disability Justice Week, MLK Commemoration, Intercultural graduate celebration, and the Equity Symposium.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Life to support and enhance identity-based student organizations and initiatives.
  • Partner with campus departments such as Learning Resources & Career Center , Library, and Evening Instruction Team to enhance evening hours, coordinate activities, and strengthen cross-campus communication, ensuring accessible support and engagement opportunities for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Actively partner with Associated Student Government (ASG) to develop and support student clubs and organizations, and events that align with RCW 28B.10.151 and RCW 49.60.030.
  • Recruit and supervise Unity Center Student Ambassadors who provide equitycentered services to the campus community.
  • Maintain the Reflection Area as an inclusive space supporting students' diverse spiritual, emotional, and cultural practices.
  • Actively participate in the College’s Shared Governance structure through the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, contributing to institutional decisionmaking and advancing equity-centered initiatives.
  • Collaborate with student organizations, faculty, and community partners to design events addressing the unique intersections of race, gender, sexuality, ability, and other identities
  • Serve as college liaison to Washington State Board for Community & Technical Colleges councils or commission as directed Executive Director of DEI.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a learning and work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking. Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding. 
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments, and outside agencies. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.
  • Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical, and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Proven ability to use data and evidence to shape impactful DEI programs, initiatives, and student support services.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with 3 years of progressive administration and supervisory experience in student affairs or related areas.
  • Robust experience in programming, leadership development, and DEI-focused resource management, with the ability to apply student development theory in supporting learners.
  • Strong community-building skills and an aptitude for establishing collaborative reciprocal partnerships within an educational setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of learning and adapting to new software and platforms as needed.
  • Skilled in teamwork, conflict resolution, organizational management, and exercising independent judgement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion, and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
