Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Construction Value Engineering and Construction Specifier Specialist to join our preconstruction team. This role is critical in driving project value and optimizing costs through systematic analysis of project plans, materials, and construction methods. The specialist will develop, review, and modify project specifications to enhance design efficiency, support sustainable construction practices, and meet budgetary goals. They will work closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure that specifications align with project objectives and comply with relevant codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Value Engineering:
  • Analyze project designs, materials, and construction methods to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Recommend alternative materials, methods, and design modifications to optimize project value while meeting performance and quality standards.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses and prepare value engineering reports to support preconstruction decision-making.
• Specification Development and Review:
  • Develop and maintain construction specifications, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Review and modify specifications to support sustainable practices and incorporate value-engineering recommendations.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure specifications align with the overall project goals and requirements.
• Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Work closely with preconstruction and project management teams to provide input on material selection, construction methods, and specification changes.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, and consultants to align on project scope, requirements, and specification standards.
  • Facilitate communication between design and construction teams to address constructability issues and specification questions.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Ensure specifications meet industry standards, regulatory codes, and project-specific requirements.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of project documents to identify any discrepancies or gaps in specifications.
  • Develop and maintain best practices for specification writing and value engineering processes within the preconstruction department.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction specification writing, value engineering, or a similar role in preconstruction.
• In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in value engineering or cost reduction methodologies in a preconstruction setting.

Competencies:

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
