This position is responsible for managing the end-to-end permitting and inspection process, including submitting permit applications, coordinating with local authorities (AHJs), scheduling inspections, maintaining internal databases, and supporting interconnection processes with utilities. Renu Residential Responsibilities
- Maintain and update an internal AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) database, including permitting and code requirements specific to each jurisdiction.
- Submit and apply for all permits through the appropriate AHJ processes.
- Coordinate with the Operations Manager and Scheduler to ensure permits are received prior to scheduled installation dates; proactively communicate any delays in permit issuance.
- Schedule inspections with AHJs, coordinate with customers, and host inspections as needed.
- Collaborate with the Senior Field Manager, Electrical Department Manager, and Director of Design to ensure plan sets are accurate and installation-ready prior to inspections.
- Coordinate inspection correction work when needed, and ensure re-inspections are scheduled and completed successfully.
- Communicate inspection results clearly to Operations Leadership and Field Staff via internal platforms; flag failed inspections immediately.
- Upload and manage all permit and inspection documentation across operational platforms.
- Support the utility interconnection process when needed, including submission of ROPCs (Request for Permission to Construct), interconnection documents, and utility communication to track status.
- Manage personal workflow and scheduling to ensure maximum efficiency and support for both the customer experience and operational team needs.
- Continue to build and maintain an internal AHJ database specifically for commercial permitting and code requirements.
- Develop and refine internal processes for commercial permitting to support scalability and handoff to future team members.
- Submit and apply for all commercial permits through appropriate AHJ channels, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with Commercial Operations staff to ensure timely inspection scheduling and completion.
- Manage the submission, follow-up, and tracking of utility interconnection applications, including ROPCs and interconnection documentation.
- Support structural engineering coordination, including submission of documents to third parties and obtaining structural letters and approvals on schedule.
- Upload and maintain all commercial permit and inspection records on internal platforms.
- Assist in identifying and resolving issues that may delay permit approvals or inspection passes.
- Experience in permitting, inspections, or project coordination in the construction, solar, electrical, or utility industries (1 years preferred, not required).
- Working knowledge of AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) processes and building/electrical code compliance, especially in SC and NC (or ability to quickly learn regional variations).
- Understanding of utility interconnection processes and required documentation (ROPCs, interconnection agreements, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple permitting timelines and shifting priorities across multiple jurisdictions.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, both internally with cross-functional teams (Operations, Field, Design) and externally with AHJs, customers, and utilities.
- Proficiency in project management or CRM platforms and cloud-based documentation tools.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to spot discrepancies in plans, permits, and inspection documentation.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to anticipate permitting or inspection roadblocks and proactively resolve issues.
- Familiarity with reading and understanding construction or electrical plan sets is a plus.
- Self-starter with time management skills, capable of working independently while contributing to a fast-paced operations team.
